More reports from Aljazeera saying Putin hardliners are also questioning why they had to fight Ukraine. They are also very worried about the sanctions as it will create a lot of economic pain for an already struggling economy.

ok I'll bite. Both sides have nukes so how exactly do you think that would go down? I think that wouldn't be good for the planet let alone Russians or Americans.

Good lefty video on this. They do admit that American's only get to hear about European countries when they are at war :) I mean this thread of moving at such pace it's almost pointless we even posting anything but hey.

I'm talking about a conventional war, one which is not possible realistically.

Dont judge an army by a APC and a single tank running out of fuel. These things happen in a rolling operation. We should be looking at the bigger picture, which is russians are on the suburbs of Kyiv.

Did people really expect Russia to steamroll in and take Ukraine in 24 hours? It took over a month for the armed forces to get to Baghdad back in 2003 for example and Ukraine is 1.5 times bigger.

And the US can't beat anyone in a war they've lost every one, they're terrible.

You're completely unaware of how well the invasion of Iraq was planned and executed, you're suggesting a failure to occupy and pacify an insurgency in Iraq is a reflection of the inability of the US military to fight and win a war against a professional fighting force, again you're uninformed and ignorant.

It takes time to call up, arm and deploy any reserve troops that aren’t currently activated

Probably why Russia needs troops from Chechnya and has asked Kazakstan also.

Can they get weapons, ammunition and supplies into Kyiv still? Looking at the maps shown yesterday, the Russians were only to the north and west of the city.

This is something I haven't understood. Just like we saw Russian tanks in single file crossing bridges into Ukraine with no resistance. We see photos of truck convoys supposedly supplies being sent from Poland into Ukraine. Why isn't Russia targeting these? It has men in the Forrests around Lviv.

I don't think so tbh, the overall plan would have been put under the mad hatter's nose and his generals will be feeding back as expected at least for the next couples of weeks.

You don't invade without good plans.

But Kiev will fall and it will be a war fought in the hills with civilians used as bargaining chips at some point.

The only way out of this for Russia is Putin gets taken out at home and they pull out with less egg in their face or full on let's wreck the place. Kiev is also a rat Warren of tunnels (the subway is the deepest in the world and bloody amazing to visit in its own right.

The longer it goes on passed a deadline the more likely Puttin risks a bullet back home this is the only hope for Ukraine, so it's going to get flattened.

Yes, the situation is critical for Kyiv. But there's room for hope if they can keep their government in place.

For obvious reasons, we have no idea how may soldiers are assigned to the city's defence, and where they are stationed.

They were ejected from Kyiv last night. They are outside now. Losses are very high for Russia compared to Ukraine. This is the count so far. Obviously expected to go up as more data comes in.

Kazakhstan has said no.

Ok, how about the losses from the Ukranians? As i said, its too early to draw conclusions, the only good thing is Ukranian morale is high and they fight back. But its too early to conclude the russians are loosing.

even yesterday that's reports of Russian soldiers entering homes and stealing food and water, doesn't paint their supply chain in a good light

And that is Ukraine’s best hope. The longer Ukraine holds out and the greater the casualties suffered by Russian forces, more greater the chance that internal pressure will force Putin to withdrawal at least to the borders of the disputed areas in East Ukraine.

The US easily beat the Iraqi military twice, occupying a country is a completely different issue.
'easily' and yet it still took the US/UK over a month to get to Bagdad, Russia is closing in on Kyev less than 72 hours in and will take it very soon unfortunately.

It was about 200. As the news explained attacking forces usually take more casualties than defending ones.
