It also says it’s based on what they have photos for and that the real number is much higher. I would say even the Ukraine numbers are probably an underestimate of the reality. We won’t know until after it’s over so we are all guessing at the moment. For Russia to be in a bit of a panic over this they must be taking some big losses.
Yeah that’s fair but I get the impression the numbers are being massively over inflated. They need to keep morale as high as possible amongst their citizens.

Numbers don't really seem that high to say there was meant to of been 150,000+ russian troops waiting on the border even before it started
And that not counting the many thousands of extra ones that have been sent in afterwards.
That is basically 100% of Russian ground fighting force, if they commit all of that they leave themselves vulnerable in other areas

Does anyone know what happened to Bald and Bankrupt or that young guy that holidayed in Afghanistan and said he was going over to Ukraine?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...n-officer-go-****-yourself-may-still-be-alive

Ukrainian soldiers believed to have died while defending an island after telling a Russian warship to “go **** yourself”, may still be alive, according to Ukraine’s State Border Guard.

Crikey, they are made of stern stuff!

Interesting, I'd got that impression from news reports too but wasn't sure if it was actually accurate - sounds like it is though! It's been amazing to hear the resilient, determined, and patriotic attitudes of Ukrainians in some interviews. They seem to genuinely love their country. I'm sure there's some selection bias there because only people like that will have stuck around and joined in with the civil defence efforts etc, but seems like it is a common attitude.

Sad as it is, I agree that I really don't think it would be the same here, and being honest I don't feel like I personally love my country in the way that many Ukrainians seem to.

Edit: then again maybe this is a symptom of being in a crisis, with a very real threat to focus the mind - maybe people here really would pull together in a similar scenario, and if faced by an invasion maybe it would be easier to genuinely love your country in the way that it seems many Ukrainians do.
Your life and your parents lives have never be oppressed by a tyrant

Glad to see it. I hope we raise our defense spending too, even though we are at (I think) 2.1%. The world is changing. We need to be ready for it.
Ready for what? We don’t need more guns as we are seeing the West is not really under any kind of threat. We already have the Yanks and NATO we will be absolutely fine. What we need is infrastructure, power stations, high speed broadband, sensible pricing for the elderly to heat their homes.

Johnny FD and Bald Sheltering in place in Kyiv, showing the situation on the streets, you know what surprises me? No looting, no panic buying (For the most part), no disorder. Just respectful people trying to go about business as best they can considering the situation. If that was UK/US, it would be mayhem and anarchy.

Remember the London riots in 2011? Shops burned down, shops smashed up and looted... People were running masked up out of the stores including women stealing and dragging HDTVs. Including a 144 year old furniture shop that was set a blaze. That lasted 4 - 5 days?

It's great to see such support flowing in for Ukraine from all angles, if enough "volunteers" show up along with all of the equipment then I don't see how Russia can ever hope to win this.

Monday market opening will be very interesting with the Rouble situation as well, I'm expecting to see a degree of chaos not seen for a while.

Russian planes are basically unable to go West now as well, they are being hit from all angles.

This. Europe needs to spend its money on becoming energy self sufficient/reliant.

Make it so we don't need Russian gas or oil , and then we can't be held to ransom by them via supply or prices.

The mostly “peaceful protests” after CO19 gave career scumbag Mark Duggan the good news?

It would have been considered racist to restrict such a vibrant cultural event, so Mayor Khan let London burn.

Not that it's relevant, but uhh might want to think again about who was mayor, not that I would blame him for it.
