We have lead the world in most of the reactions to this war, why are you focusing on the refuge situation seemingly exclusively?

Because, how we treat others really shows the true character. Also I really don’t think we’ve lead the world. It’s been pretty uniform across the EU and NATO.

the refugee issue is going to last a lot longer than the war, we’ve done the easy bit but we aren’t willing to do the tough bit. I’m glad that our European neighbours are more compassionate.

No you just dont like anyone who isnt English. We can accept people, we can make it work....we choose not to.

We can't, we don't have tens of thousands of homes to put these people. Also, if these people were to be housed for free or very low council rents then everyone would want the same deal.

The immediate concern for refugees should be to get them to safety in a neighbouring country. We are providing aid to these places. There then needs to be some organisation of sharing the refugees out across Europe and not a disproportionate number choosing the UK.

You looking at it from a laymen point of view though, that's why it doesn't make sense to you. It's not just a defensive alliance, it's also a military alliance with integrated operations, there's an infrastructure for various deployments ie Libya bombing and Yugoslavia bombing.

Perhaps but it's not as if Ukraine being in will make a huge difference to any of that, US is the real power house in NATO, I think Ukraine are more interested in it from the defensive point of view.

I've said before but I'd prefer a more open Russia than the version we have, they should not fear the west but instead work with it.

Yeah the whole nuke tangent this thread took is a bit annoying. If it was triggered due to Russia raising their readiness level, the level is still 2nd out of 4 levels and the US came out and said they do not see any threat of nuclear weapons and they are not raising their alertness level.

Understandable that it got people riled up but the US came out and said it's fine.

Given the level of readiness of airborne forces from NATO with round the clock persistent missions in the sky, I think they are taking it a lot more seriously than that regardless of the public facing stance. The US and UK, etc. alert level is definitely heightened.

The Russian psyche has never seen nuclear war as "the end" in the way the West has and that should concern people. During the cold war when our civil defence was little more than bunkers for the government and advice how to possibly survive the initial blasts they were building huge bunkers with the goal of surviving and re-emerging.

Refuse refugees from a war zone because local citizens may want the same council tax discount they get?

Lets just hope we the UK don't need help from other countries because we are setting a great example as always.

Have you not watched any news this last week? Whilst the UK government could have done a few things better wrt immigration/refugees, they were one of the key drivers for rougher sanctions, such as booting Russia out of the swift system.

We aren't on the edge of that war zone like Eastern European countries are. Hence they have a different visa scheme to admit people quickly into a neighbouring country because that is right to open that passage of travel quickly in the circumstances.

The TV news was pointing out that we still used Russian oil and gas hence pay for Putin’s War.

there will be a natural point that the consumption rate needs reducing/substituting.

Wah. Wah. Wah.

Tiny Lebanon deals with a million refugees from our wars, but fifth biggest economy in the world UK can't stand up to the plate for tiny numbers of refugees. How little do you, and other pretend patriots, think of our country that we can't step up to the plate for this? Pathetic.
