Russia has committed about 10% of their, on paper I hasten to add, armed forces. Though given how committed the rest are to Syria and their domestic concerns not sure they are in much position to attack anyone else.

Their in reserve armed forces are useless without a functioning supply chain, they can't even support what they have now

As someone mentioned when the idea of giving Ukraine Migs from Poland and the like first came up, the Polish Migs will presumably have been retooled to use Nato ordinance. Means we'll then also be able to supply Ukraine with air to air missles and other weapons.

Poland has 28 Mig-29`s , a mix of A model single seat and B model tandem. Neither model has been equipped with nato ordnance. Poland would be laughing if they did a swap to F16`s

Soviet warplan for Germany invasion in the 1980`s was for 3 days of fighting before resupply; they never learnt from Gulf War

Lol when I was stationed in Germany in the late 80s early 90s all our kit was rubbish/old due to being the first regiment to be overrun by the Warsaw pack How times change.

All the noise about the troops in Estonia and its teh same thing - RTR have the oldest Chally 2`s in the fleet as the trip wire force

With what he has no army left. This is not an option in how this plays out.

Also think then jets are a step too far, but Putin can't keep claiming its not a war and dictating the terms to others clearly involved.

Its radar`s in the air and the A2A kit is not bad against other russian airframes. Its a numbers game as as long as 1 side can keep up with the numbers. Russia hasnt learnt from GW1 and the need for total air dominance on Day 0.

I would imagine China also has legacy claims on Sakhalin, so no different to Crimea

Exactly, if the West just does nothing Russia will be invading the rest of the Eastern European countries. We can't just avoid all conflict and cower because Russia has nukes.

No he won't, he doesn't have the armed forces to do so.

We're not doing "nothing" though. Sanctions are crippling the Russian economy. Massive amount of arms are flowing in to Ukraine which are going a long way towards helping them win this.
I don't call these things "nothing".

To be fair, we are pretty well equipped these days from a personal kit perspective. Some durability issues with some of it, but for the most part its a world away from 12/13 years ago. This is in some ways thanks to Afghanistan/Iraq conflicts exposing major flaws in our old equipment.
I used to have to spend a lot of my own money to just have kit that is functional and fit for purpose. These days theres just no need to if you dont want to.

What kind of kit do people typically upgrade with their own money?
