I am grateful they are doing all these things but so is the rest of the world and doing more than us too to help in their own countries the refugees.

You know as I do we can do more, the people of the UK want to see more being done too.

Of course they are because some like Poland are their closest neighbours. The idea for neighbouring countries to open their borders to these refugees wasn't because they want them all claiming asylum there. It's to address the immediate desperation of the situation to get these people to safety. Once they're in a safe country then aid can be got to them easier.

We can't take many in here unfortunately because we've already been taking in thousands from France.

I'm not suggesting we start a nuclear war. Putin is trying to convince the West he'll start a nuclear war over conventional warfare in Ukraine. I think he's blatantly bluffing. The question is what are we going to accept before we call that bluff.

But @LabR@t is right (possibly for the first time in his life) that is a high stakes question. I, for one, am glad I don't have to make that decision. Neither I, nor anyone else, knows what the outcome will be.
Neither was I(should have said conventional first strike) , but what your suggesting is likely to start a nuclear war especially with how unhinged Putin is, so if you’re going to get yourself in a position that’s likely to start a nuclear war , you need to be in a position to take out the other sides nukes all at the same time.

I do wonder how much of the war they are actually seeing

Not much and all of it is about the "nazis" in the donbas etc oppressing the local citizens nothing whatsoever about the wider war i.e. the siege of Kiev etc the only source of non-state TV is the internet and social media and even thats becoming harder to access with russia recently blocking access to facebook etc

I had nothing to do with Trump. All NATO countries agreed to increase funding to 2% when Obama was in power .

Trump simply wanted to leave NATO, no doubt on the request of Putin. Remember, Trump actively blocked aid going to tbe Ukraine!

Its going to be great when Trump 2.0 lands in a couple of years time in teh US.

Bye Russia, does this mean no more bots ?

Russia's disconnection from the world is going to be really interesting. A lot has been made about Tory money coming from Russia but I think the left and liberal agendas will be impacted the most. It's been rumored that Russia has been using these groups as useful idiots to destabilize social cohesion in the west with huge and wholly disproportionate activism from tiny groups impacting our society. Their support could dry up and we could be seeing a lot less from them.

I wish. I'd expect Russia to ramp up its bots and cyber disinformation over the coming weeks, months and years. Its the one area they've had fantastic successes over the past few years in dividing the West and weakening democracy. This campaign has really backfired on that front as well.

Why, have sanctions saved a single life?

Not a single one and never will and all it has done now is bring suffering to the Russian people, people that again have nothing to do with Putin's war.

I understand the sanctions and why they are needed and agree with them but as above they don't save lives they cause a different form of suffering on innocent people again.

I still hope the Russian people stand up to this and end this for us all, it really would be the best outcome if it was done inside the country, so we can get rid of this mad man and his people and start putting the world back together for all the Ukrainians, the Russians and the Belarus people that suffer under a dictator too.

Russia is deliberately declaring humanitarian corridors then targeting civilians who try to use them.

No more.

It's time for the Western nations to enter the war to defend Ukraine. If Russia launches then so be it. We cannot let this go on the basis of (likely empty) threats.

It’s just not worth it. We’re talking a few thousand killed civilians vs billions (and potentially all humans).

It’s not only Putin that must be paranoid.
Name one country with rich people that doesn’t attempt to influence governments?
Which Russian bot made you vote Tory/Labour/Lib dem against your will?

Reds under the beds is so ‘50’s.

Apparently the Yantar has left port. Not only can it spy on undersea cables, but it's also a 'mothership' to multiple minisubs and ROVs that are capable of severing undersea cables at depths of 3-5 miles.

Going to be interesting to see how this develops, if the ship sinks what are Russia going to do, invade NATO, nope, Nuke us, nope.

We and all of our allies have intelligence agencies and military advisors that think about these things and will have a far better handle on what Putin might or might not do and are advising our leaders. Its not like we don't want to stop this but our leaders are responsible for 100s of millions of lives. To gamble with those if they aren't 100% sure Putin wouldn't launch would be reckless in the extreme. A cornered rat will attack.
