In circumstances like yours I always ask myself - would I be comfortable with what I am doing being on the front page of a newspaper or the top news story on TV/social media?

If the answer is no then I stop doing it.

I am not assuming, I have already emailed Tesco and told them what I was doing. Not sure if they do pay the electric bill or if it is picked up by Pod Point, but Tesco have no issue with it. Just waiting to see if Pod Point now do. If they don’t have a problem I will carry on as I have been. That’s the end of it as far as I am concerned.

With regards to free electric charging ending, of course it will, I said so a few pages back. When they have a Enough of us on EV’s they will charge. Same as VED, does anyone think that will stay free forever?

I suppose if you got a new ID buzz kitted out / electric camper you could live at the free charger

I should be picking up a new EV on Thursday and making the jump.
The whole home wall charger thing is a nightmare TBH. How did people go about getting them installed? Is it just go on facebook and find a spark who will do it? Or did people use someone like Bumblebee??

But many have not engaged with the market and don’t really know the ins and out.

A lot of manufacturers want the sparks to do a quick certification on their product before they can buy/fit them. Most will only sell to the trade on that basis and maintain their own approved lists.

I would find the EVSE you want installed and approach them as they will have a list of approved installers.

I’d recommend a tethered charger (has the cable permanently attached) but other than that it’s down to the features you want like solar integration or smart features, how it looks and your budget.

I just contacted the company manufacturing /selling them which in my case was Ohme. Think I contacted them on the Tuesday and they fitted it on Saturday albeit via a local sub-contractor. Am sure it could have been done cheaper if I could have just bought the unit and found my own electrician but it was hassle free.
 
Car finance finishes soon on my Honda Civic i-dtec 1.6 diesel soon, gotta say the car has run faultlessly over the last 4 years no issues at all but questioning whether to go Hybrid or Electric.

Autotrader shows me that EV cars are way overpriced and even the hybrid models are pretty dire unless you spend 20k, most hyrbrid's i have seen look so boring. VW GTE looks interesting but googling around out of warranty of reliability scares me.

But the other side of the fence is Fiesta ST-3 or a Kia Proceed GT, but with fuel prices the way they are i question if the government will start taxing higher fuel on performance vehicles given that fuel duty is only going to stay like this long term. The problem is at the moment with the cost of living and the average earner there is not much available on the market, one part is saying go sensible with a hybrid but another part is saying get a nice performance car before 2030.

I've look at the 308 GT and the 208 GTI but French cars worries me and I'm sure the 1.6THP engines had head gasket issues. Toyota GT86 looked nice but has no grunt and what the hell is with the leg room in the back LOL, i had a love hate with the Nissan Joke Nismo RS but the MPG put me way off. VW cars specifically 1.4TSI had reliability issues particularly the timing issue that can blow the engine.

You've not mentioned budget, annual mileage, how long you'd intend to keep it for, and if you prefer to buy new, nearly new, or used. You mention the Golf GTE so I assume you prefer to buy an older car?

What is your TCO for you current vehicle, if you know it? :)

Unless you are willing to pay the current used high prices, I would keep your current car and save the money for the future.

This basically. The prices of new and used cars is only great if you are selling and not replacing. Everything costs £lol right now so what you gained on your sale, you spend it and then some on whatever you buy.

Ahhh Sorry

It's very true all second hand cars are overpriced, Type R 2015 models were around £15k before the car shortages now their around £20k!!

The current mileage is around 10k and intending to keep the next car for at least another 5-6 years and i will probably go used, after making a mistake last time going brand new and depreciation dropped off like a cliff.

Budget taking into account there is small amount of finance left (1 year) i can get around £4k for mine surprisingly being almost 10 years old, looking at max £11-12k. Trying to move away from Diesel. Reliability is the key so i am Mainly look at Toyota's, Honda's, Hyundai. Since owning my Honda i have no mechanical issues apart from Tires.
