Custom built PC to act as a Blue Iris server is the NVR. (8700k, 16GB Ram, 18TB HDD)
Cam purchased from dvs.co.uk. I had to create a trade account though, don't think they sell to non-trade. I think they're all sold out of the new 8MP ColorVu ones at the moment anyway.
Before that I got some form cctvdirectonline.co.uk though. They were a tad more expensive, but not much, and anyone can order with a normal account. Looks like they have stock at the moment.

My Dahua gear is arriving tomorrow, couple of 3549 TIOC 5mp bullet cams and an NVR5208 8 channel NVR (Thanks @WJA96 for helping to steer me!).
Next, I want to complement these by replacing my "old" gate entry system that uses a 2G simcard, and is voice-only, with one of the Dahua VTOs.
I have absolutely no interest in having a screen inside, the only thing i want it to do is immediately ring (via app) both my phone and my fiancée's phone if someone presses the button, and to be able to open the gate from the app whilst on the call.
1) I see lots of people discussing SIP servers etc. I assume for this set-up I don't need this at all and I can just use the DMSS p2p functionality etc?
2) Will the camera be able to be connected to the NVR and work in the same way as my other cameras, recording on schedules/motion detection etc giving alerts even if someone doesn't press it?
Currently, there is no ethernet to the gate, but it does have a decent wifi signal and power. Because of this, I'm looking at:
VTO2311R-WP
VTO2211G-WP
These both seem to have the wiring out to be able to trigger my Nice gate motor, and just that 2311 is a bit newer/sleeker?
Are there any other products I should be considering? Has anyone used the Dahua wifi VTOs?

Just been told to sort CCTV for my parents bungalow next week, it’s a rural location with no street lights/light pollution, gated drive access to front and rear. Initial idea is 4 external cameras to cover front door, rear door/gate and the side where the oil tank is, the final camera to cover the front gate. No need for PZT and only basic processing of target areas (very little post/no visitors), and my preference is PoE rather than coax. I’ll need a minimum of 4 chan PoE NVR (8 would be better) to do the processing and push notifications to two iOS devices. Three turret cameras and possibly a bullet cam pointing square on down the drive to get number plate etc. Obvious contenders are Dahua or Hikvision, ColorVu was my first thought as I remember being impressed seeing the first gen stuff, image quality is more important than resolution. Anyone care to point me in the right direction?

have you considered one of the "doorbells" / entry systems that tie into the dahua/hikvision systems to give you camera coverage there and control gates too?

Do you want it to call/text you or send you a DMSS alert? If you want the former then you need SIP for the latter the P2P will work. SIP will be faster and more reliable.
The camera will record to the NVR-5208 but you will need to do the motion detection on the recorder whereas the TiOCs can also do it on the camera.
Both those doorbells will trigger a relay so yes, you can open a gate.
Do bear in mind that the image quality from those doorbells is awful. I seem to recall suggesting a pair of cameras to cover your gate - a TiOC for area view and illumination and a zoom to get a good image of who/what was at your gate.
Not specifically, a two way isn’t a requirement, but a doorbell style camera could work on the front/rear. My main line of thought was fixed turrets, but happy to consider something else.

The area will be covered (in wide angle) by the 3549 camera yes, though I have no plans to add a zoom as I think this should be good enough to be able to identify people during the day at least?
So after a little consideration, the HiLook IPC-T259H (5mp + ColorVu) in either 2.8mm of 4mm seems to tick most of the boxes, the HiLook NVR-108MH seems the default 8ch NVR option. I appreciate it may be obvious, but how much better is something like the DS-2CD2347G2 and DS7608NI-K2 likely to be? Also any benefit in say going with he Hikvision NVR over the HiLook in terms of processing/detection/zones etc?
The main issue with the HiLook is going to be the 12.5fps at 5MP vs 30fps at 4MP on the Hikvision. The other major difference is that the Hikvision camera has all the AI built into the camera whereas the HiLook cameras need that functionality in the NVR. Which is OK because the NVR108 has some AI functionality but not as good as the Hikvision models. So yes, it’s double the money for the cameras but the images will be smoother and you will get fewer false alerts.
Hikvision also gives you their app vs. HiLook’s app which is slightly nicer. If it’s a financial decision then the HiLook is a no-brainer but if you can stretch to the Hikvision cameras then I would. On the NVR front it’s much harder to justify the extra £70-ish for the Hikvision recorder over the HiLook, but if yiu can stretch to it it’s a slightly better specified unit but the better spec may not be anything you need - it will record at 4K on all 8 channels whereas the HiLook will only record 1 channel at 4K and if you use that, it will only record at 1080P on the other channels. It’s little things like that that may or may not be important to you/your parents. The Hikvision recorder gives you scope to upgrade whereas the HiLook is good enough for what you want to do today. I’ve not actually used the HiLook, but I can’t believe it won’t work with Hikvision cameras and the Hikvision will work with almost any IP camera.

My 5208 spec sheet lists a "smart" fan, yet it sounds like it is on 100% all the time, it's incredibly loud!
Some screenshots online show a fan control option somewhere in the settings but that looks like an old GUI, any idea where it is in 4.0 or did they remove it?

Is it 100% a genuine UK unit? It shouldn’t be ‘incredibly’ loud. Your best bet is not to mess about with it, send it back for one that does have the smart fan enabled. All UK 5208’s have the smart fan. Where I’ve seen this in the past is where units have been sourced from abroad and they’ve got the Chinese spec or worse yet, the factory B spec which is a lot of what is sold by EmpireTech. There are a surprising number of sub-standard units kicking about on Ali Express and the like. A dead giveaway is that the camera or recorder doesn’t actually have a Dahua logo on it.
If you have an issue returning it, and it’s from a UK reseller, then I can say I installed it and reject it back to them as technically yiu only have a warranty if it was installed by a registered Dahua installer.

The last time I went down to do some work (replace a door and some windows with UPVC equivalents) I ended up having to re-roof the extension, not sure how happy they’ll be to see me if I drop nye on a grand on CCTV/security lighting
Joking aside this will be the first of several, it’s less about what it will cost than it is about getting it right and not having to drive down/back again. Yo, CCTV nerds, need some advice on a set up!
Moved my business and we've not got a small retail space that's in the town center. I've only got experience with crappy wireless efuy things that just look the part but couldn't pick out a face from 2 feet away. Premise comprises of a downstairs space, where the retail side is going to happen, along with upstairs toilets that customers can use and the stockroom for my online business. Front of the shop has full-length glass panels across the entire front of the store (1/3 of which is getting frosted in). The entrance to the store is at the front, next to the windows, and we've got a fire escape door at the back that leads onto the back of where multiple businesses share a space for parking. You can just walk around there though from a side street.
Not looking to spend all the money in the world, yeah it's for a business, but at a certain stage its just better to pay for more insurance!

I’d be looking at a basic Ajax alarm system rather than cameras necessarily. £275+VAT and they’re pretty much stick-on DIY devices and they’re really good at the alerting thing.

(if, for some reason you would ever find yourself in need of supplies for Dungeons & Dragons, let me know, that's all I can help with haha).Looking at that stuff then, how does this sound.
1x MotionCam Outdoor - Outside the back, overlooking the rear fire exit door we've got. I'd want the MotionCam over just a standard one so I can tell if it just someone taking a short cut, or a couple of Ne'er-do-well with a power tool and crowbars. I'll be there late most nights, so there really is zero reason for anyone to be back there after I lock up.
2x MotionProtect - Two situated in different corners over looking the entire ground floor. Might get away with just 1 as the range says its 12m and the ground floor is only 10m2 roughly. Don't think I need one upstairs, as you can't get access to that without using the stairs on the ground floor.
2x DoorProtect - One on the front door, another on the fire door.
1x Internal Siren - Hopefully I can set it up as a "warning" siren incase someone bangs the door or something accidently and not trigger the 113 dB of death the street one will give out.
1x Street Siren - Across the road is an entire block of flats that each have their living rooms overlooking my store. Also just to be on show and look the part.
Then the hub, a keypad and a couple of passes.
To top this off, thinking then of just getting a couple of generic TPlink style cameras that I can just use to monitor the store inside to deter stealing.
