Anyone going through this journey right now? I used to own a property, and remember it being a painless exercise of looking, putting and putting an offer in (under asking price) and getting accepted.
Roll on 15 years, I have put multiple offers on a house 'asking price' only to be rejected on the basis of a higher price was accepted.
Can only assume vendors are getting in with the aim of turning alpha from rentals.
Getting a bit downbeat to be honest.

Big thread in Home & Garden

/cliff notes: you need to offer over in almost all scenarios

Are house auctions a thing? We're also buying in the next year or two and not looking forward to this exact situation :(

Yes they are, but shells requiring total refurb. Great if youre good at DIY or surplus cash and no kids.

Oh good, I tick all those boxes :D

It is absolutely crap out there, every time I hear about people house hunting recently it's always the same story :(

You don’t even seem to get the ability these days to match an offer. They just ask for the highest bids, it means people are bidding way over the asking just to secure the property. It’s great if you are selling but if you are buying it’s a nightmare.
