I am tending to agree with Amnesia, all this talk of no surrender, Putin's a madman, if he goes the next President will be even madder... The only eggs most forum commentators have in this basket is a well tapped keyboard.

And frankly I am getting sick of the Ukrainian leader's lack of negotiting skills as he "demands" this and "demands" that. I'd like to see how much help Ukraine would offer other countries if the situation was reversed..., is "disappointed" with the other.

Lack of negotiating skills? England is invaded and 20% of the country is under enemy control with most sea access cut off, and france is also your enemy but has not yet attacked themselves. Most countries in europe are sending you weapons.

Do you choose to give up birmingham (heavy industry) and a lot of that area in negotiations, ot keep fighting?

---

Russia cannot be trusted. If they come to a peace talk agreement, tomorrow or a few years down the line they will rearm and try again. Now they have an excuse as they need to buy new better equipment to replace that which they lost etc.

You and Amnesia are absolutely blind to the direction Russia is going.

Would peace be good? Yes, of course. But in the long run it means nothing. Russia are willing to do and say ANYTHING to get to their grand objective.

Eggs in basket? Ooo the old "your opinion is worthless" argument. What eggs do you have exactly?

What lack of negotiating skill? Ukraine has offered talks so long as Russia withdraws to the 24th February boarders not exactly unreasonable, Russia in their negotiations in Belarus back in March sent their minster for culture as their representative.

There will be no serious talks until one of the two parties can no longer afford to keep fighting, unfortunately I think that's more then likely to be Ukraine because their war effort is dependent on western support and that's more likely to fall away before Europe can replace Russian oil and gas. The other factor is German, German is a key hub for logistics to get weapons into Ukraine and if Russia leans on Germany by threating to turn off the gas that could spell disaster for Ukraine and it's army. For Ukraine to have a future they needs as much kit as they can get from the west ASAP and have a good go at driving the Russian's back over the summer, if Ukraine can regain most of it's lost territory before Winter it will take the pressure of the west and put it firmly on Putin.

The fact he is DEMANDING, rather than asking, he has the negotiating and assistance seeking skills of a football hooligan. Henry Kissinger he is not. But any slight divergence from total enrapture for the man is met with hostility here, it's another L v R.

The time for any finesse is over really - look how many in Europe are mumbling about letting Putin keep what he has taken so far in the hope it will end there - given Russia is hauling sizeable amounts of artillery out of reserves now and dipping into various other reserves it almost certainly won't end there or any time soon - possibly not until Ukraine ceases to exist or Russia is militarily spent. And don't think if Ukraine falls, or even cedes some territory for peace it necessarily ends there, especially given the way Putin is talking of late.

I'm afraid there are going to be some harsh lessons learnt in Europe before this is over.

Maybe don't be too harsh on Zelensky, he was pretty close to being assassinated in the first few weeks of the war and is actively leading a country with inferior armed forces against a large Russian invasion. I wouldn't expect any man to have perfect composure and be perfectly reasonable and pragmatic at all times.

Doesn’t sound like Ukraine is getting great support if they’re running out of ammo.

Russia must have a pretty tight grip on those parts where it’s issuing its own passports. They can then claim Ukraine has ‘attacked its citizens’.

He’s right to be demanding. It’s in the West’s interest and we’re already waivering. The sooner they kill every Russian invader the better.

Won't happen, Russia has this massive advantage on the battle field called artillery, the way you beat it is by having air supremacy - which Ukraine will not have. Likely the problems Ukraine has with ammunition is getting it to the front lines.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall during a Mr Wilson negotiating lesson.

Or longer range artillery that we have, but seem to be delivering in too smaller number.

He has to shout, as he has a limited window of opportunity. Every mile of ground lost means Ukraine has to go in the offensive to retake it. Every week sees more pain for both Ukraine and a weakening of allies' resolve as sanctions affect their own countries.

I kind of agree that some posters are unrealistically optimistic, but Russia has to lose.

France as always shown there true colours to UK, I would give up Ireland in negotiations and end the war.:p

America can't be trusted too!, the U.S. provided Ukraine with $1.5 billion in military aid from 2014 to 2019 you talk about peace & democracy agreement but where was that agreement when USA invaded Iraq War 2003 where was the sanctions placed on America for lying to the world just for oil? And it seems that NATO, USA UK didn't respect international law and UN charter agreement then. Was it not days before the fighting started, the US was the “culprit” in the Ukraine crisis, heightening tensions, creating panic on social media and even hyping up the possibility of warfare. your opinion of peace don't work in the real world. I know that there are a lot of people who just can’t change their respective views for the United States, but their political position in the world just can’t be ignored anymore.

It's insignificant pretty much, Russia has an artillery advantage over NATO I think, so against Ukraine the advantage is overwhelming.

Depends a lot how well maintained Russia's artillery and ammunition is but even if 1/3rd is a dud that still leaves a lot of stuff.

Given that Russia multiple times lied through their teeth to the UN and other official entities leading up to this and since and multiple times tried to use negotiations to game the situation on the battlefield there is absolutely no way to trust Russia in negotiations. Putin burnt any trust in the last few months and his rhetoric of the last few weeks and comparisons to historic figures and events etc. leaves little doubt as to his real intentions.

Then your logic is no different to the user I replied to, you and him are both suggesting a fight to the death and here earlier in this very thread you were claiming to be anti war lol.
