Actually. Do postmen get ****** off with these letter boxes? I mean that's a proper bend to insert job!
They hate them according to my postie! Also really easy for thieves to nick your mail and small parcels. A door with no letter box looks better, just put a post box on the wall next to it.

We worked out it was better to get a catflap that was microchip activated and stick it in the wall

I think glass tends to be quite a bit cheaper than actual solid core door. Probably more expensive than uPVC foam filled though.

I think building regs for NEW builds have banned low letterboxes due to pressure from Postal unions, you may get post left on your door step...
The government are taking their time with it but it looks like it will be illegal - https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/2336
Hopefully the OP doesn't live where it floods often, the door might have a good seal but I doubt his 'box does.

Most of what comes through our letterbox these days is pizza flyers, so it may put them off
