blinking tap cartridges

does anyone know how to identify the cartridges in taps, i have a leaker. i see on ebay there are lots of different types. why dont manufacturers use washers any more? is it a scam to force you to buy new taps every few years?

I replaced 2 in the bathroom recently. Just turned water off. Measured them and got from screwfix. Job done

how do you go about measuring them?

Water off. Remove tap cartridge. They just unscrew.

i know how to get them out, its measuring them im not sure about. is it the length and diameter of the knurled spleen on top of the cartridge that i have to measure or another part of the body?

Cant remember how I did it exactly, took it out. Measured. Looked on screwfix and found some. Found the specs / measurements and job done. Try it. Can always take them back. Or take one with you and check in store.

Take it out. Take it with you to screwfix and get a replacement. Simple.

not sure you won't get turned over at screwfix they're about £4 ea on ebay once you know what you need,

if you can definitively id the tap on the internet , you can get the right part up front .... several earlier threads on this.

Take it out. Take it with you to screwfix and get a replacement. Simple.

Don't be that bloke at screw fix shopping like it is Wickes

No worries, everyone in here saying just measuring them isn't so helpful!

Be sure to count the ‘cogs’ on the top of the tap, this has caught me out a couple of times.
