Solidor quote

Outlawed? Having your letterbox at the bottom of your door? Seriously? I'd like to see someone from the government come round and tell me I have to move my letterbox :p
It was linked to above: https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/2336

With old fogies now allowed to be posties, and the pressure to rush deliveries - continuous bending has been a major source of Union angst for years.

Edit: of course it is new builds but the policy will likely be applied unilaterally - i.e. no posties to use low-level boxes; you either fix your letterbox, get another external letterbox, or they dump the letters near the door.

The world really has gone mad.

What next? Posties refusing to deliver to houses with long pathways as it's wearing their joints out?

There are plenty of silly rules these days but making people bend or crouch down repeatedly while carrying post bags day in and day out to deliver mail when its easily avoidable seems a good move to me.

How good your joints will be in later life after ever longer working careers is part genetics but more often what you do with them. I've seen two people suffer terribly in later life due to specific jobs whereas their siblings have all been fine due to different careers.

Just need to make sure you bend at the knees and not the back. Just a bit of basic health and safety training needed ;)

And if you aren't in a fit state to deliver a few letters through a variety of letterbox heights, then maybe a different career is required.

Also what about dwarf posties and high up letterboxes? Maybe they need to ban ones over a certain height too.

The key thing is you don't know you have suffered too much wear until it's too late as the people I mentioned discovered in their early 50s.

We don't have to be overly helpful to posties, but given they have a hard time finding the right house where I live I wouldn't want to give them another hurdle to delivery :)

They already legislate that cash machines must be <2 feet off of the ground so yeah that is a good idea tbf :D

Well I just configured an identical Solidor door through another third party company and it comes out at £1700.

Anyone heard of timber composite doors?
Yes I used timbercompositedoors to do mine at my previous house. Solidor, installed, £1200. That was 4 years ago though.

Also got a quote this year for £1400.

Sounds a bit cheaper than our quote then. I did my level best to get some money knocked off though, but they weren't budging. I guess we must have picked an expensive configuration.

It's probably glass that does it. Ours only had one slim glass pane.

They did a good job though, it was installed great.

We are having the outside green and inside white, which probably adds to the cost. Also fancy decorative windows will bump it up. That and the fact everyone is price gouging right now.

Glad to hear they did a good job though.

Still can't believe the quote I got going through Solidor was £2500! Insane.

I wouldn't worry unless they need doing... the painted utility box really ties it in IMO.

They are getting a little on the old side I think and a couple are a touch drafty. Also for some reason one of the small side windows is wooden. So it is something to think about.

I have painted the garage the same green, so also gives some continuity.
