Probably going to start seeing and hearing about atrocities committed in the liberated settlements unfortunately, perhaps not quite as bad as with the failed Kyiv offensive but they've been there awhile so goodness knows. Certainly documents relating to kill-lists and filtration could have been left behind at the HQ in Izyum, on the upside there's also likely to be documents relating to who collaborated and Ukraine won't have to spend too much time on it.

I didn’t expect the counteroffensive to be this effective.

Apparently hitting targets in Vovchansk now, right up to the border.

Yeah something tells me the US supplied Ukraine with a lot more missiles and artillery than we were told. It’s been a literal endless stream of Himars strikes since the start of September.

'Russian troops stationed in the Balakleya and Izyum regions have been regrouped and redeployed to build up efforts in the Donetsk direction' - Russian Defense Ministry

I just hope the Democrats can retain Congress, because if they don't, Republicans will immediately seek to cut off US military to Ukraine.
No chance, there's a handful of Republicans who might do that but more likely they will want to push for greater oversight of where US weapons are and where there being used. Lend lease has already been passed so Ukraine can get all weapons they want without Congress intervention.

Let's hope it's not a trap.
not sure how it can be

the russians cant hide any troop concentrations or staging points from nato intelligence gathering either by surveillance aircraft or satellite..

I think you are giving them far too much credit

poorly led troops with no objectives and low morale...this is what happens

in a well trained army you would have pre planned fallback positions if you were retreating and rally points for seperated units to gather....and if you had no officers around your nco's would sort it

the russians are just not set up like this so it becomes disorganised and every man for himself and so when one lot of troops bail out all the rest have to as well or they become trapped and isolated as theres no support or plan in place and if your officers have buggered off, theres nobody left to make any decisions...so you just run

and leave all your gear behind it seems, vehicles, ammunition...doesnt sound like a preplanned retreat at all really when you look at the evidence on the ground

I just think they were complacent and didnt think an attack of this sort would happen, theres clearly no depth to their defences once the ukranians got past the front line...and no defensive structure in place and no reserves to plug gaps...just terrible organisation which seems symptomatic of this russian army

Some of them probably only signed up / were conscripted a couple of weeks ago.

Depending how mental they actually are, it would be a pretty ******* brutal 4d move to allow Ukrainian forces to mass in certain areas and then drop a nuke on them to wipe them all out in one swoop, just depends how far the Russians are willing to go in destroying their image, when most of the world hates them, does it matter if the whole world hates them (although I wonder if the likes of China, NK would see it differently effectively opening the doors for them to use nukes themselves on countries they dislike)

They won't be dropping a nuke. Well maybe if the Ukranians kept going across the border...
