Hi all, I’m after a laptop under £1000 for my everyday needs which are general browsing the web, word, excel, high pixel photo editing etc I’d like good battery and portability with not a big screen I think 14inch would be the sweet spot. I did see the asus zenbook 13 inch i7 on curry’s for £820 what do you guys think of that?

I don't have an answer for you - but I'm after something very similar myself.
I'd also be interested in recommendations for 14", non-gaming laptops. In my case as an upgrade from a 2yr old Chromebook that's been my 'living room' computer for the last couple years.

Have a walk around a high street shop and tap the thing and see how much the screen wobbles. Most of them are just drunk, so can be easily ruled out with that test.

Yep, that's my concern - most are rubbish. I've mostly used Mac for ~15 years, haven't *ever* bought my own Windows laptop. Is there an ~£800 Windows laptop with great build quality - does such a thing even exist?

There's been some good deals on the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 recently.

Beautiful 2.8K OLED panel, decent battery life.

It's been available for £600 ish if you don't mind not having a dedicated GPU.

I've never had an Asus laptop so can't really comment on quality, but I do have a quite recent Dell Inspiron and it's a nice machine so I'd say this range was worth a look.

Except maybe the original Asus Eee I've rarely had good things to say about Asus's build quality - they almost always skimp out or slap something together somewhere creating a weak point in the design even on the premium products. For instance had a couple of routers where despite overall being a decent design they used really cheap and nasty switches which barely lasted more than a dozen actuations before failing.
