Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

I think the confusion is that they should say that even though my direct debit will be 67 lower the amount credited to my account each month will be my new direct debit + 67.
Honeslty that's obvious. If people struggle with that no wonder we have issues. The way Octopus are doing it is the way it should have always been done. It means you are not struggling to find a larger payment and wait for a refund to come that could be days or weeks.

Just cut it at source and means the £400 is then actually doing the job that it should be doing.

I like the way Scottish Power are doing it.

DD stays same, 67 into bank.
Makes it easier for me to see the cost and means it won't change back when this is over.

But really, neither method is much bother

I like how imagining these conversations went in reality vs how they are reported.

He First said summit about all the Direct Debits being a mess, I then said I was flat out refusing to let them have a DD set to 400 and would pay manually.
He offered me one for variable (pay for what you use) which really surprised me as I know they don't like this version of payment.
I said OK that's fine if you can replace the meter so that its accurate (SMETS1), oh we cant do that.

So he goes onto lets review your bills.... (gas was like 7quid last month lol)
So what about 300 (currently set at 200 so still a 50% bump) and looking at SC and unit rates were not being charged double as of the 1st.

I asked if he could justify the cost going from 200 > 300 per month compared to the amount the SC and units were changing.
He turned round n said no and that they'd leave the DD as is :)

Tweets and blogs dont cut it, for some reason they not doing direct communication. Not sure why companies think social media is an acceptable communication platform.

I am aware of the £400, but even I was initially confused for about half a minute when i seen my lower DD, but then it twigged the amount was the same as the monthly £400 rebate so at that point figured it out. I remember the news stating it would be done via payments to people's banks. and I have seen loads of confused people asking about this all confused.

Would you like a phone call from the ceo?

Paying people the money directly would be a car crash.

I’m sorry you’ve been confused. Perhaps rely on social media posts from your energy supplier rather than the news.

We were paying £30 a month, and are now £410 in credit. Looks like Octopus have reduced our bill to nothing now.
✅ Solar
✅ Home storage
✅ EV
Note : this includes our ‘fuel’ bill for 1k miles per month too. Love EV’s with solar ☀️⚡

that is ok if you are responsible / not totally broke.

but this rebate is for energy to keep people warm and allow them to cook .
if it went into bank accounts some people would spend it on other stuff ... and still have no money for energy.
you could argue adults can make your own choice but I would counter that this is a government handout to help with something specifically. keeping people warm and able to heat food. this may keep them out of hospital

potentially funding an iPhone / Netflix contract or what ever doesn't.
imo octopus are doing it the only sensible way.

PS I don't use social media either so am kind of sympathetic there..... but equally even so do feel clued in on what is happening. whether I would if I didn't post here am not so sure but I think places like BBC have sort of covered it

it is such a massive thing however imo it is beyond the scope of customer services to cope ... I would dread to have to phone octopus customer service at the moment. I imagine the queues will be awful.

100% this.

Got my updates prices through - £230 increase per year for both gas (£140) and electric (£90) combined so about £20 per month increase for a single occupant in a well insulated house - I really thought it'd be more as my current monthly bill is about £60 combined (bit less in summer, bit more in winter) so this is "just" a 33% increase when I was expecting it to be well over 50%.

oh look real world people saying solar, home storage, EVs are a great combo. Where are all the haters now? :)

Really? Tell me how long it would take for me to recoup the cost of a solar/battery install where my home uses 1100 kwh/year of electric.

I have a South facing roof with circa 12-16m2 of space for panels and the house is empty during the weekday.

I see Eon have this statement now up for fixed tariff customers. Still a tad confusing. I think it reads that those of us who signed up for V19 etc will not only receive the deduction set by the government but we'll be set at the sane cap as those on SVR tariff. If I've read the latter part of the statement correctly.

'For the small number of customers who fixed at a high rate exceeding the October Ofgem price cap of £3,549 (£3,674 paying on receipt of bill), they will receive the full discount of 16.998p for electricity and 4.2p for gas. To make sure that those customers also benefit from the EPG we will bring their fixed price down to be in line with the government's £2,500 average threshold.'
