I've always found in get really good results putting lawn feed/moss killer on at the end of the season as a pose to the spring.

I've used like those all in one products before, only because I'll pick them up on reduced to clear for peanuts, but as I don't go to shops as often these days, I'm unlikely to find a bargain and the stuff is really bloody expensive otherwise.

Has anyone tried iron sulphate?

Seems you can get this stuff much cheaper.

Or anything else?

Boston Seeds spring/summer and/or autumn/winter fertiliser is probably what you're after. A 20kg bag is (or used to be) good value, though depending on the size of your grass how long this will last you will vary.
