Cheap broadband

I genuinely don’t understand how, on a forum where you’re not allowed to sell, and you’re not allowed to punt referral codes, you constantly promote Sky and hand out friends and family “discount” codes.

I’ve questioned this multiple times as well but who am so to say what’s right and wrong.

Never mind though. Dunno how one gets away with it. Bet you someone or some people have made a lot of money throughout that post.

It was cleared with the Mods more than once. It benefits the members also. Its also limited to members who have been here a certain amount of time and believe me I get loads of 'driveby' requests from 0 post new members for codes.

I can only find an entry in the rules for posting *unsolicited* referral links, in my opinion any otherwise active poster (e.g. not someone who only posts about referral links) mentioning they have a code which requires someone to message them to get is not the same as people piling into a thread where someone has asked a question about whether Hyperoptic are good and posting all their referral codes.

So going by the rules there's nothing wrong with a Hyperoptic customer posting in a thread to say they are a customer, giving their review of the service, and that you can contact them if you want a referral code.

Totally agree.

Nothing wrong in trying to help others.

It’s not allowed. I did that for my Tesla referral link and it was removed. The whole point of the ‘friends and family’ code is that each party gets something. So either @MissChief is being a bit economical with the actualité or these are not ‘friends and family’ codes. And as far as I can tell this was unsolicited because @MissChief was never asked but instead volunteered to sort out the OP with a discount.

Now, imagine I posted in the Mikrotik or Ubiquiti threads and said I had a ‘friends and family’ discount code for an RB5009 and I could do you one for 15% off it wouldn’t be allowed. Imagine if was punting out ‘friends and family‘ codes for U6-Pro’s. They’d shut that down right away. It is the same thing and I don’t see how it’s allowed.

I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed. If someone can get a sky friends and family then we all should be allowed to post other friends and family codes. This is exactly what I expressed before but nope. Pas de divertissement!

I can understand it's a nice thing to do but a little bit unfair. Just a smidge.

Let’s assume that @MissChief is being truthful and he’s getting nothing from the arrangement, he is still stalking the forum using it to pick up new customers for Sky using an apparently unlimited supply of discount codes to hook forum members to sign up. And I’m pretty sure that’s not allowed. Certainly not for anyone else.

Someone's benefiting from it that's for sure.

Certainly not for anyone else.

and this is one of the problems. It's one rule for one and another rule for others. If I start posting friends and family codes, I wonder how quick I would be permabanned for it.

In principle I don’t have an issue with it. The sad thing is that MANY forum users could arrange group buys and discounts for other members but it’s not allowed.

I don't have an issue with it at all just trying to get my head around it why it's not allowed for others.

oh there's another group buy as well the nintendo group buy for family and friends!

So why not other ones allowed.

Because it could end up being a free-for-all with group buys and people trying to drum up support for something.

If you have something to offer that will benefit other forum members run it past the mods, they're a decent bunch (most of the time!) and will make a fair decision.

I'm happy to suspend code requests for the time being while mods discuss it. @Maccy Happy to answer any questions you have. Was asked about it previously but probably a couple of years ago.

He has a link in his signature - that’s clearly an unsolicited referral and his own thread since 2017 where he’s signed up and “helped” lots of forum members.

Now let’s say that he personally doesn’t get anything from all these ‘friends and family’ referral codes, it’s still very likely that they count towards sales targets or are linked to some other incentive from his employer, Sky. This is not an entirely altruistic act. Sky are clearly supplying him with a large number of these ‘friends and family’ referral codes. I have a referral code from Zen and one from Daisy. Am I allowed to post those? If so I can get you Zen with a fixed IP address, true technical support and the same speed as Sky for £25/month. And that’s the price you’ll pay for the whole contract, not an introductory offer. You‘re not allowed to post Octopus Go referrals, Bonnet referrals or Tesla referrals.

While you may well trust @MissChief I rather suspect you’ve been hustled with a discount code into taking 2/3rds of what you originally asked for.

No, i disagree.

Sky were on my radar as family has it. Ex has it. Work colleagues too. No issues. So, i was looking at them.

Now, i got a referral and paying £23 a month for 18 months.

That great for me.

I don’t work in sales and never have, although if someone does need to call in to order for some reason then whoever takes the call will likely get some commission for it.

Other company referrals are banned because it quickly descended into people posting their referral codes for all and sundry and those codes are customer referral codes. While there are customer referral codes (or used to be, I think it was £50 prepaid Mastercard each but that was 3+ years ago) I can offer these codes because they’re only available to staff members.
