Specifically the default factory AMD card: how available do you think this card will be on release day? I'm not the type to join the F5 refresh wars on websites. Is it likely to be at least £1200 with the 20% vat over the $999 US price?

My prediction

Very, very limited supply on day one, then they will, to all intents go completely absent in the UK retail channel for 4-6mths or so until AMDs partners have had a chance to make some money on them with their cards.

..only after that will they start to re-appear for sale at the usual E-tailers.

Ok thx, that's how it goes then.

AMD doesnt sell direct to the UK anymore (they use digital river, so thats not actually a bad thing tbh). Good supply on day 1, but it`ll sell fast thanks to the significant price disparity to the Nvidia cards

These are called MBA and I did get 6800 MBA from OCUK soon after release, in just a bit over MSRP. Chances are Gibbo will be able to secure a bunch for this release too. Still, I expect them to vanish quickly, if reviews show they're 4080 or faster speed in raster (huge majority seems to still not care about RT).

This is wrong. They are sold in the uk as aib cards. I know because I bought a 6900xt MBA from over clockers it just has sapphire on the box instead of AMD.

Wrong. You cannot purchase an AMD direct from their store with a uk address.

Read what I said. I bought the mba card from overclockers. It was AMD reference and had a sapphire logo on the box. Same as my vega 64 years earlier.

A few AIBs sell the reference card e.g. Powercolor, Sapphire. They buy them from AMD and slap their sticker on them. You'll likely see a few direct AMD reference models as resellers are able to source them.

But remember these will be in extremely limited quantity, and mostly only available at launch. They exist to get you on the showroom floor. The System wants you buying higher priced/higher margin AIB models which will likely come in at £1200. That said, if the 6xxx series was any indication, AIB models will have higher thermal and power limits so the price may be somewhat justified (as absurd as prices already are).

And go and re read what i said, you cannot buy direct from amd with a uk address.

So yes they are available in the uk. Overclockers will sell them as aib cards. They are usually in a limited run so you will need to be quick.

Any new card less that £1269 is going to sell like hot cakes. If they somehow manage to get the AMD cards under £1000 they are going to fly and I dont think there will be many. Be interesting to see how many 4080's of each line there are. The 4090's some had less than 100.
Not seen any posts by Gibbo about today like you did with the 4090's does that mean there will be very little.

You are arguing semantics. It will be possible to purchase a reference 7900 from a UK store.

I bought a reference Powercolor 6800 from OCUK.

If it is an MBA version then it is a reference design. MBA literally means Made By AMD

Price is likely to be ~£999-1029 as the £:$ has risen but AMD will want to try and keep the card targeted at below the psychological below £1k barrier, so may well support the price even if it drops back a bit in the next few weeks.
As for buying a card on release, if you aren't willing/able to sit in front of a device and spam refresh for 10 minutes, then you probably won't get one until the new year in terms of just loading a website and hitting add to basket, and if you want an MBA card it depends how long they offer them for, they may start offering them long term via a UK outlet like Nvidia does with the FE.

I don't think they're that fine in pricing strategy -- at least in the UK which is a relatively small/insignificant market. And while AMD may very well want to keep the pricing under the £1k psychological bar, resellers definitely don't care as much.
