Wait to buy the 7900XTX or buy the 6950XT?

No it means I value the 4090 at £1200.

Fair enough the new cards are overpriced as hell, i'd be far happier if AMD kept to the 999mrsp but i know realistically that's not going to happen.

I was planning on getting a 7900xtx but now after seeing AMD lower the prices of their 7000 cpus after only a couple of months i may wait it out see what happens.

3440x1440. the 6950XT will be a beast at that resolution, the 7900 XT /XTX will demolish that res but you will likely incur CPU bottleneck penalties.

You can get a 6900 XT from OcUK right now below 700 quid, the 6950XT is not worth it over it.
Would it be wise to get the 6900 XT now as a plan B, just in case the 7900xtx isn't available for ordinary folks on the 13th?

I have to say for the price, it's a very good one and the performance between the 6950XT and 6900XT looks minimal?

IMO yes. It's all been said in the thread for it (don't forget with the code it comes down to £649, and has two games) but the XTX is not $999. Or £999. You are forgetting about 20% VAT. So the cheapest it will probably be is £1200. If you can get an AMD reference one, because literally every other card is sure to cost more.

That means the 6900XT Asrock works out at nearly half the price. The XTX? 100% will not be twice as fast. The 4090 is what? 55% or so? faster than the 3090Ti. If the XTX was twice as fast and thus worth twice as much £ per frame? Nvidia would be in very deep doodoo.

It won't happen. So you then step down to the 7900XT. Which will be £899, plus VAT. You are still over a grand. And that isn't for an AIB card either.

The 6900XT for £649 is the best value card I have seen in years. Many years. The 1080Ti cost about that much when it launched IIRC.

Right now? nothing needs a 4090 unless of course you are running silly resolutions with silly features. Silly because you will be playing 1 year old or older games on it, none of which are all that.

New cards never, ever offer the best value. No brand new tech does. Not ever in all of my 49 years on this earth have I ever been wrong about that. It's just like new cars, etc etc.

BTW talking of value. IMO? the lower tier to mid tier cards right now represent the worst value. Because people are losing their minds that you can pick one up at RRP or a little under it ! that's nuts. The 6900XT? was a £1000 GPU. So that means you are absolutely smashing the RRP by a considerable sum.

Thanks for the reply. What code is this for?

There is a code there you put in at checkout. Brings it down to £649 :)

That's the best deal you're gonna see for months IMO, and it is taking every fibre of my being to resist it right now. I am stretched on the rack of FOMO.

I would absolutely wait, because even if you can’t get a 7900xtx right away, if the rumour is right and it is equal to the 4080 then Nvidia will have to drop the price of the 4080 to compete

I'm waiting for the 7900xtx reviews but this may end up being my back up buy it the cards are priced ridiculously or performance isn't what I want

Interestingly is there anything you currently play that actually struggles to hit the fps you want to run it at that makes you think the games you play are unplayable or even work load is too slow? Or is it purely FOMO and i need it now?

I know how you feel, I managed to pick up a 3090 for £650 to upgrade from my 3080 because it was a good deal and will jump on a 7900xtx if it’s neck and neck with a 4080. I don’t even play anything that really taxed my 3080 nevermind a 7900xtx

This is why I am resisting, I know I don't need it. 6700xt is fine @ 1440p. Just got 5700x and moved up to 32GB RAM, I'm set for years for my gaming needs, still the FOMO haunts me...

:)

I know exactly how you feel, I was hovering over the buy button on a 7950x today to replace my absolute perfectly fine 7900x just because it’s a good price

You beautiful SOB!! I was unable to reply for some reason and had to wait 16hrs to reply..

That's such a good deal, it would be rude to pass on it.. Thanks for that dude!

At least I have a plan B sorted if the 7900xtx dream fails to turn into a reality next month. I should be able to game my way into the new year thanks to your message. Much appreciated..

Any more amazing gems like that in the forums at the moment? That was pure gold.

So happy! Thanks OCUK!! You've just made my build a reality. :D

Would make sense to wait and see how the performance of the 7900XT & XTX shape up compared to the 6950XT. Then you can make an informed decision based on this and the cost of all three cards.

That's assuming the 4080 isn't priced to get you to go for 30XX or a 4090 instead though.

This. This is something people are just not realising. The 4080 is a terrible value, because it was not really intended to be sold over anything else. It was designed to make the last of the 3090tis look like better value, and thus get people to pay in excess of $1000 for one long after launch.

Jen is doing what he said he would. Manipulating the market. The fact this is selling so poorly is exactly what he wanted. It means people are buying up 30 series cards instead.

The 4090?. Is one of those "name your price" items. IE again he did not want to release it yet, so has stuck a "if you really want it it's this much" price on it. You know? when your mate has something you want really bad but he doesn't want to sell it so he gets to name his price.
