Router for 200MBPS FTTP

Hi guys,

my current draytek 2760 router seems to be limited to 85/90mbps. When I do a speed test that's the maximum I get however I am paying for a 200 mbps FTTP connection.

I did originally want to get another draytek which supports that speed but for what I do and the cost of them it doesn't make sense to pay so much.

It will be used for my small business and I will need to be able to setup VLAN's.

Can anyone recommend a suitable router?

Are you plugged into the router directly or a switch, If a switch have you tried straight into the router?
 
Do you have QOS enabled on the Deco?

If you've not updated it with the new speed, it'll throttle the connection.

In this case it won't be anything to do with the Deco, it will entirely be the fault of the 2760 (A 2012/2013 vintage router).

It wasn't until the next model (2762) that 300Mbps WAN throughput was possible, the 2760 will only do around 90Mbps

If it's used for business, then arguably it should be easy to justify the cost (and support) of a "small business" product (i.e. Draytek), versus the potential downsides (buggy firmware, limited featureset etc) of having to deal with "consumer" routers

2760 was only around 90/100Mbps; you really need the 2762 which was ~300Mbps.
But considering it's for business, i would either stick with Draytek or go with another decent SMB router (MikroTik perhaps). There's also the option for second hand as there are deals to be had, i picked up a 2860Vac for £30, but there's obvious disadvantages with that.

Yep I would go for a MikroTik, will you rely on this for WiFi, or do your Deco's cover everything anyways?

Yes, the deco's do cover everything.

Just plugged a laptop in directly and through the 2760 I am getting 200mbps so the deco's are limiting it.

My deco's are in access point mode so the QoS is done through the router.

I have put my deco's into router mode and setup the QoS (increasing bandwidth) but still no difference so i've since gone back to access point mode.

Not sure if I can edit anything in the 2760 web login to do with QoS/bandwidth to try and increase it going through the Deco's?

Tempted by the Draytek 2762 going forward, take it that works with FTTP connections then?

2762 was the model that followed the 2760 - The current Draytek model would be the 2763 (or 2766 on the off chance that you might move somewhere that has G.Fast support).
Both the 2763 and 2766 are good for 950Mb/s. On both of these models, to use FTTP, you would plug an ethernet cable from the Fibre ONT into the LAN4 port, and you need to set the WAN2 option to Enable.


If you need >950Mb/s, or don't want a shared LAN/WAN port, then the next model up would be the 2865 (or 2866 - G.Fast), which are capable of 1.3Gb.

It's the deco mesh devices.

Just tested WiFi to the Vodafone router and I'm getting 200mbps. I bought a newer router compared to my older draytek one as well, lol. Will still try to set it up anyway (had a few issuing getting the draytek 2762 to connect to vodafone). 2760 was my previous router.

I need to get the 200mbps connection upstairs to be able to connect wired devices. My tp-link deco ones are the e4 which on there forums a lot of people have the issue where they are capped at 90-100mbps even when changing the qos setting.
 
The Deco E4 only has 10/100 ethernet ports which explains the limit, there's nothing you can do about it.

IMO it borders on fraud for TP Link to sell these making all the speed claims that they do while they are limited in this way.

I do have a set of S4's as well so might swap them over and test those
