• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Never mind

Thanks for all the help guys, will have a think over.

Mike - if those are the 2 games you play and not a lot else, then do consider the 6900XT

or even the 6800XT

these are near 1/2 the price of the latest and greatest and will give you a great experience in those 2 titles.

If you went that route, as previously mentioned a combo of a cheaper card and the 5800x3d would really smooth out the 1% lows ( min frame rate) that's what you really feel anyway, when the fps drops.

Thanks again guys for the input.

Tonight I managed to pick up a used 3080 from someone local to me, who was no longer using their pc - they bought it during covid times and haven't used it for a year or so.

Got it for a great price and is a decent card from what I can see.

MW2 now runs above 100fps mostly from the initial couple of games, good enough for me :)

I have 32GB, I do not have an nvme, only an SSD. Does that make much of a difference?
No a SATA SSD is basically as fast for gaming as an M.2 SSD.

The 5800X3D is a great CPU upgrade option if you are on an AM4 motherboard. It even beats the AM5 Zen 4 CPUs in many gaming workloads. It is up to 15% above the 5600X in games that are CPU limited / 1% lows. You can sell your 5600X on for a couple of hundred pounds so the upgrade shouldn't cost you too much. If you wait a couple of years the 5800X3D might not be available any more so now sort of makes sense to keep your system going as long as possible.

And that 3080 was a great buy. I just passed mine onto my brother. They are still, 2 years on, the best price to performance card if you want to play at 1440p or 4K with ray tracing enabled. The newer cards are better but not by as much as the amount that the prices have increased. Make sure to get used to enabling DLSS 2.0 in any games that support it in quality mode for an added boost to perfomance and often image quality (vs AA options at native 1440p).

What speed ram? Although tbh, doesnt really matter . As above nvne wont be noticeable , but the 5800x3d is a great cpu

I have 2933, as I used to have a Ryzen 2600 and the max memory speed for that was 2933, so that is what I bought.

I did think that memory speed did not make much difference really, but I may be wrong.

I may look to get a 5800x3d, but at the moment my system seems pretty happy with what it has for what I use it for.

Thanks again everyone for the help and suggestions.

Not if they can't access the MM it doesn't. If they can't go into the threads then how do they know what's in the used market unless they go somewhere else like FB market place, gumtree, ebay etc.
Do those other places not count as the used market?

The MM is not the only place you can buy 2nd hand GPUs.

NVMe will eventually be needed when games start to use Microsofts direct-storage (released 2 months ago). However it seams very few developers are talking about implementing it yet.

There were some good NVMe deals about boxing day, but prices have shot back up massively. I would hang fire.

As to when its a good time to bite bullets and upgrade from your 1080ti to a 3080+ class card, I don't know. That's what all the "arguing" you are seeing is about. If there is a derth of big game releases in the first half of 2023, prices (2nd hand and new) might come down. Alternatively, if things like Starfield get released in 3-4 months, then maybe prices will remain high.

Is a shame to see more arguing and pointless posts in this thread over things that don't really matter and people discussing what an expression or word actually means.

I am happy to be sorted now, but does seem to be a lot of very angry people around in this forum.

Right now everyones knickers are in a twist because instead of the new generation cards "replacing the old" with similar prices but a jump in performance, the GFx card companies have decided to simply stack the new range above the existing and align the price of the new cards accordingly. Whilst its not what happened previously, in general terms, right now the more you pay the faster card you get. If you are in the market right now for a Gfx card you have no choice but to plump for the card that gives the desired perfomance and pay the asking price. I think everyone agrees the new gen cards are great cards, just no one likes the new pricing strategy. For you, keeping cards for a good stint, the "extra" cost will amortise out over the time of ownership. All cards mentioned above will do what you want right now, but given that you keep cards a while, I think I would opt for something with more vram and higher mem bandwidth than the 4070ti as you may well upgrade that 1440p display before your card in the future. Don't forget to flog the 1080 on the MM for a little subsidy towards your new card.

I'm not trying to vere off topic here but the 3090 RRP on release was £1399-£1499 and selling at that or higher consistently for 2 years.

The 4090 is £100 more RRP.

So, do please explain?

The

6800 XT is back at £599 here. :)

Alternatively look at 4070Ti (£799) and 7900 XT (£899)

I'd probably buy the 6800 XT personally or 6900 XT (£699)

P.S. 3080 great choice! :)
