COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Because a lot of them were crazies.

Some were I won't argue there... 5G and Bill Gates controlling us were some of my favourite!

However some were also experts in the field, unlike myself or the majority of people in this thread ;)

More and more of these experts are now starting to be listened to.

Again don't get me wrong something had to be "done" and I certainly wouldn't want to be the person to make those decisions. However, regardless of the decisions some transparency and openness of good and the bad data and information would be far more interesting and fair.

I mean this is the thing, something needed to be done. If we had just listened to all the people saying its nothing to fear its just a cold. Tens of thousands more people would have died. Its that simple really.

Just for clarity I never inferred that nothing should have been done, nor did I suggest it was something to be ignored. Protecting the vulnerable was absolutely the right thing to do - however I don't think at the cost of the young and healthy or the kids sits comfortably with me.

I just really wish we get some openness without any sensationalism about the 2 sides of the argument - not to win points or "I told you so's" - I think some people who are still living in fear need to be comforted (if applicable) and likewise those who are even more blasé than the antivaxers / covid-deniers need to have some grounding about things.

If we can get to that middle ground I think we would all be in a far better place - I don't feel we're anywhere near there yet, however I do feel the pendulum is starting to move a little towards the middle. However, to be absolutely clear, I don't expect or believe it should go past the middle.

We are living in the middle ground its just there are a lot of hardcore nutters on the anti side and they make it sound like we arent.

Vaccines were and are needed. The lockdown needed to be done and it should have been done sooner. Look at the death and hospital entry spikes evertime the restrictions were dropped.

We are in the middle ground now. Took us too long to get here. Furthermore, what is troubling to me is the increasing information being released about this omnishambles which makes it hard to really believe a lot of the so called facts I'm afraid.

Its the Tories. Have you had your eyes and ears shut for the last 13 years?

So remember when that guy that helped invent mRNA technology warned about lipid particles accumulating in ovaries and he was branded a covidiot/denier/crackpot?

And it later transpired that large numbers of women were having unusual periods?

And remember there was HRT shortages last year? (good of them not to blame Brexit for this one  )

Well it turns out there's been a MASSIVE increase in women wanting HRT, numbers approximately doubled between 2021 and 2022.

Also, it looks like there has been a HUGE drop in births last year, almost 12% (ONS only published upto November so far), the drop starting around, you guessed it, 9 months after the vaccine roll out to under 50s the previous spring in 2021 and didn't recover over the year. (this is seemingly repeated in other nations 9 months after the roll out of the vaccine to their younger adults).

The worlds slowest car crash continues.

Edit:
Maybe the tele could put on Children of Men like they did with Contagion at the start of the pandemic.

We've also had a lot more talk about HRT and encouraging women to talk to their doctor about it and we are in a cost of living crisis which can make the prospect of having children look pretty unappealing.

There are other factors to take into account but they should keep monitoring any potential long-term side effects from the vaccine and covid.

We also need to take into account (specifically for births) that there may be some data lag in play here and that it needs another year or two to become conclusive. You see a rise in births throughout 2021, which is not surprising considering the amount of couples "making the most" out of being locked in together still during lockdown.

2022 into 2023 is compounded by the war and it's effects on people lifestyles.

It's interesting you mention a lot more talk about menopause as I've mentioned this as well - there was a big push at my work end of last year about menopause support. Similarly end of last year we were being told to all start take statins.

The temporal effect is particularly strong with both HRT and births, though the original Sky News report says that the number seeking HRT doubled over 5 years, the time period that they doubled was actually almost all contained in the 18 months from mid 2021. Similarly, births the drop appears very strong in Feb/March 2022 and never recovers (unless people some how knew about the cost of living crisis 9 months before it started?). Births will be very well recorded by the ONS, it's an official requirement to be reported by parents within 28 days(?) - yes there may be a lag of a month or so, but certainly not a couple of years.

Please expand?

Rather than delve into disaster porn with a loony Corbyn government lets look at what would have happened if we had slightly less deranged Captain Hindsight government (albeit handicapped by the lack of hindsight lol).

- We know Starmer was consistently in favour of longer and harder restrictions which would have been even more damaging to the country will little upside given the impossibility of zero covid in the UK

- We know Starmer would have joined the disastrous EU vaccine scheme with the loss of life that would have caused

- We know Starmer would have imposed an unnecessary omicron lockdown with all the associated harm

- We know Starmer recognises the shadow cabinets lack of experience in running government hence the ill advised appointment of the unethical head of ethics

- We know Starmer would be a puppet of the unions and civil service blob making ending covid resruictiuons virtually impossible and keeping schools etc closed

...to be fair though Starmer wouldn't have spent 5 minutes having happy birthday sung to him by his staff if thats important to you...
