Is it safe to buy fuel/diesel from supermarket chain stores?

So a few years ago, we had some reports that cars had broken down following fueling at my local tesco. From that point I stopped buying fuel from tesco and any other supermarkets like asda, sainsburys etc. However with the cost of everything going up, I want to reconsider and stop buying from BP and shell as they cost more. What are your views and opinions regarding buying diesel from supermarkets any bad experiences or its just the same as the one found at BP shell?

Yes. Bad batches of fuel happen, supermarkets just get more media attention when it does. Funnily enough ours is nearly more expensive than many of their competitors.

Was at a asda many years ago washing my car and tanker driver filling up the tanks there so I asked him how comes the petrol was so 'cheap' here and he said " Put it like this, I would not put this crap in my car"!

I think the sample size of a large population on a daily basis across all kinds of vehicles is enough statistics to suggest it's fine.

My nearest Shell is 15p dearer per litre than my nearest Sainsbury's for super unleaded, and it's about 2 mins longer drive. Shell can do one at that level of difference.

I will say no, its crap fuel.

I use a a lot of fuel per day as I run a boat with a petrol outboard motor. If I use supermarket fuel it will clog up the filters in a matter of days and engine won't run right at all.

When pouring supermarket fuel it is red and smells almost like red diesel, where as from a decent garage its white and smell like petrol should.

I know a lot of you will just say I use it and it's fine no problems, but it isn't as good quality it's that simple. Don't belive me, just pour a litre of each into 2 jugs and you will instantly be able to tell the difference.

I think you need to go to Specsavers....but I'll bite.

Which Brand Fuel compared to which supermarket are you referring to in this instance?

Thanks very much for your views. What's your idea of The decent garage please?
