Oh good grief, I need a new graphics card.

Ugh. How depressing. What was once a bi-annual delight, I know see as some sort of punishment from God...

However, since I am obviously going to have to bend over to the great god NVIDIA, I might as well get a 4080. That's the limit really of what I am willing to spend, no matter what.

I am primarily interested in cooling performance, a good model seems to be the MSI Suprim X. I won't insult you by saying it's cheap, but it is better than some other models.

Anyone any thoughts or comments on this?

There is anecdotal evidence that the Msi and Asus 4000 series cards are more prone to coil whine than the other brands. I personally would get the Zotac for £1260, 5 year warranty if you register it and 20% cheaper.

Sapphire Nitro+ 7900xtx for £1180 or go for 4090 FE for £1600. I like Msi products and that is a good looking card but it does not seem like good value.

£1500 for a 4080..................................... AND those suprim X's seem to suffer coil whine a lot.

AIB base 4090's @ £1740 vs that £1500 4080 - 4090 all day long. Extra performance over that 4080 is worth £240 all day long. 0% credit card and get it done.

If you are spending £1500 you might as well just wait for a 4090FE drop.

Alas, no, I am not going over that budget. I can get the Suprim X for £1200. I am not about to go much higher when I don't need to. However, if they do have a lot of coil noise then I may go for something else!!!

12700K, 32GB RAM, Corsair 850W Titanium PSU, Budget £1500 (very reluctantly), 3440x1440 165Hz monitor.

Games I play are all modern titles and usually at full everything.
Almost exactly my spec with a 4080 FE but my UW monitor does 175Hz :)

In my Phanteks P500A case the FE never goes above 60C and with a mild UV it barely breaks 50C. I don't believe the increased power on the AIB designs makes much difference as my FE will run at ~2925 Hz with a +175 Hz OC.

I do have a custom side panel with open air inlets so that probably helps with temps.

Interesting.:)
My case is very well ventilated so I would probably get the same results.

Need or want?

In a similar position to the OP, but don't have the luxury of going for an FE card. Balls.

Yes for me, it comes down to either the Gigabyte Gaming or the MSI Suprim X. Both seem competent when it comes to cooling. If I am honest I am less bothered about coil whine because I can't hear bats in my garden any more - and I am pretty sure that's not because they left!!!
I generally consider Gigabyte, Asus and MSI, since they are makes I am used to. This time, though, the Asus is just crazy money.
I really don't want to spend the money, and I certainly don't want to spend more. I think a 4090 could well mean a new power supply so I just don't want to go there. Besides, £1200 is enough and I'm not going to get a 4090 for that.
A 4070ti would be enough for me, but I can't bring myself to buy one. The way that NVIDIA destroyed the potential with the memory is just a crime. Besides, I have a 4K monitor that I might use for gaming, time to time.
I would get a 7900xtx but they seem to be holding their price, whereas the 4080 are not. If you hunt around you can get a 4080 bargain (I use the term "bargain" relatively!!!!). There is certainly nothing wrong with the 4080 as long as you get it as cheap as possible.
