i grabbed myself a rtx 3070 fe for just under £300 bfrom a company, from that auction site, this is what i came home too, 300 quids worth of gpu left on the door step that anyone could come along and walk off with.
the company used cheapest signed for at post office. im littery stunned the parcel was still there, luckily was on early shift this morning, as normally home at 7pm, and im betting it wouldnt have been there.
im just stunned tbh

what did you expect from ebay. of course they are going to cheap out, just like you did during purchase probably.... by choosing the place that had the cheapest price.... Now you find out why

Seems like such a risk their end in terms of compensation for damage/loss as well (ie sending it just 1st class signed for)

not really, it popped up on page i put cheeky bid it, that was accepted, so wasnt looking for cheapest gpu at all :p

Very few signed for deliveries seem to actually have a signature asked they take a photo at a property often without the number showing.

It's rubbish and I am sure when things do go missing or end up the wrong house it's a nightmare for the recipient to sort.

Glad you got lucky.

if thats all the proof of delivery i imagine many people keep the card and then claim it wasnt there when got home and get money back too

Thatrs not me tbh, but can imagine some doing, if not only to teach a company a lesson in sending expensive items through post

Am I the only one that thinks that it's not so much the issue if the company using First Class Signed For, but more an issue with Royal Mail being lazy and not take the package away and leave a note for options of attempt re-delivery another day for local depot collection?

I mean if I was to use First Class Signed For with Royal Mail, I wouldn't expect them to just drop the package at someone's door when there's nobody at home/answering...otherwise, what the heck are people even paying the extra over the regular First Class for?

It is both really (i mean, you'd think they would pay the extra for their own protection).

But i agree, signed for seems rather pointless now. I just use their tracked services now as they rarely bother to get a signature.

My thoughts exactly. It's a bit different if you know your postie & they're happy to put 1st/2nd class bits through your door & leave a squiggle themselves but this is just pure laziness.

Seems like there's 2 faults here

Royal Mail didn't get a signature despite the terms of delivery stating so

The Seller sent an item worth £300 with insurance for only £50

I know above says 1st class but same applies for 2nd class

anything over £50 i always used a track and sign service, surely the seller should have protected themselves as well, im tempted to give the seller a fright and say i havent received it as of yet, as i was in work for one and obviously i didnt sign for it lol

I've had tracked items left with a scrawled signature (presumably by the postman) several times in the past so even that isn't a guarantee, though at least lately a lot of the time a photo is taken of it at the doorstep.

surely thats opening themselves up to a claim for theft, leaving an item on doorstep is asking for trouble. not everyone is honest tbh

Sorry, to clarify I should have said once the door had been opened. They take a photo of the parcel at the doorstep with the door open (and presumably whichever ghastly socks I'm wearing at the time).
