Just had a quick google out of interest. I'm not interested in the music content. Just movies and perhaps the odd review or "how to" vid. Seems the only real advantage, for myself, of premium over free is removing ads.
If I got Youtube premium will I get more movies for me or tv series for the mrs? (She loves a good murder)

Am I missing summat?

I mainly use YouTube and android and the main benefits are removing ads and being able to switch apps with it still playing in the background.

I refuse to pay for premium though, so tolerate the ads and lack of flexibility. Just means I use Spotify for music and podcasts which I already pay for as much as possible.

If you are a heavy youtube user though, definitely worth it to remove ads.

I don't see the value in it as it is (aside from there are ways to get it cheaper) what also annoys me it has come out they intentionally play with ad patterns to try and annoy people into paying so I won't on principle.

Whatever happened to producing a compelling product at a price people would want to pay - even the search implementation is like something out of the early days of the internet lacking even basic advanced filters.

I rarely watch YT on mobile personally, usually a Windows tablet or desktop.

Ads don't bother me much. Most of the ads are 5 seconds with the occasional 15 second ad. 5 seconds is nowt. 15 seconds? They bother me a bit but not much.

So for me the main reason I want YouTube premium is continuing to play videos while locked.
Locked? Do you mean playing youtube in a mini window whilst doing other stuff?

As in, phone locked, screen off.

I use it because it can be had for pretty cheap, and features I value such as downloading for offline play as well as the aforementioned background/locked playing. Very worth it for me.

I subscribed to YouTube Premium after it first rebranded from YouTube Red because it was required to watch season 2 of Cobra Kai (Season 1 had been a price per episode affair). Unsubscribed after they sold CK to Netflix in Season 3 because there was nothing worth watching haha.

Keep listening while phone locked
No adverts on Android TV
Youtube Music (sometimes)
180 rupees a year...

profit.

How do you get it cheaper
Read GD.

Can't remember where I live, but I pay just under £2.50 a month for the family plan - so that's 5 of us getting the benefits of premium. Worth it at that sort of price, but not worth the full price 8f you live in the UK

Likewise. I used to tolerate the ads when they were 5 sec at the start of the video, but then they went full retard and started putting unskippable adverts at the start of every video, so I installed ABP. No more adverts :)

I hate watching on mobile and avoid doing so wherever possible, the worst is when you are skipping through a video to find a specific point, and you ed up with 15-20 seconds of adverts at the start, then each time you skip forward you get another 15-20 seconds of exactly the same advert.

As you say, I won't pay on principle

Re-vanced or Newpipe for Android, no ads, no need to be signed in to Sub to channels, can listen with screen off, or have picture in picture etc.
