I suppose you could draw a parallel with a Mankad attempt and obviously Bairstow wasn’t given a warning, but it’s not like there’s any convention here. Don’t think Carey did anything wrong.

Is anyone going to argue that dismissal was sporting? It's even worse than a mankad because Bairstow isn't gaining anything, he's just doing his usual gardening routine.

To be fair to Carey, he tossed the ball at the stumps when Bairstow was still stood in the crease, and walked out while the ball was in flight.

Nah, its scummy. Aussies know its scummy but won't care one bit.

Even Virat Kohli agreed to reverse a similar event (a few years ago).

At the end of the day however it was within the rules.
Teams choose to play to the letter of the law or play the spirit of the game.
I think its going to make the ashes another one of the ones that end up being played in bad spirits due to this.

Shocking mistake by Bairstow. Shocking to see the Aussies go for that. It is what it is.

It's fired up Stokes though.

That naff dismissal of Bairstow would turn into one of the great sporting turning points if it riles England into life to win this!

They didn’t even need to do it, we were going to happily sleepwalk into a 250 all out special, now they’ve woke Stokes up.

I've got absolutely no problem with what Carey did and I'm really surprised that people think this is off.

Firstly Carey threw it when Bairstow was still in his crease. Secondly you can't leave your crease for obvious reasons until the ball is dead, otherwise you'll get fielding teams missing run outs for singles because they 'felt bad' upsetting Stuart Broad's feelings.
