So I've got a AIO liquid cooler from cool master.

But now Ivr managed to upgrade to a 4090 and a "the case 500" I'd like to get into proper liquid cooling, especially with the very cool colours of some of the liquid (assuming it's not just light lol)

So for a 5800x3d and 4090 what is a full list of parts I'd need and what's the cost... Gulp...

Not sure what "the case 500" is?
And sometimes it's coloured coolant
Sometimes it's clear but leds make it look not clear

First thing would be check if you can get
A gpu waterblock
Not every gpu has a waterblock available

List of parts depends
What pc case you actually have
Ie how many and what size radiators it can hold
Whether you want soft or hard tube
Whether you use a distro or a pump/res
And quite a few other things
There's no one list fits all

As for cost it's not cheap at all nowadays
Using new not second hand parts
You might pay anything from 60 upwards for cpu block
100 upwards for gpu block
100 upwards for pump/res
Or several hundred for a distro
Radiators depends what you get
My new ek rads were 100 each
Then fittings say 4 or 5 quid each or 8 each for something
Like ek torque fittings
Tubing and tools if hard tube and a leak tester
It just keeps the cost rising

You need to watch full guides on youtube and internet articles etc.

It really is best to do a lot of research and understand what you are doing with watercooling.

Some cases are really bad for watercooling, i had to modify both my cases and even then the rads sit on top of the cases. I just did not want to spend a fortune on another case so i made do with what i had and made it work.

I always keep it simple as possible, one big radiator, a pump / res combo, a GPU with watercooling block already fitted as standard, waterblock for the CPU and 3/8" - 5/8" flexible tubes and compression fittings.

Plus to make it easier to drain you have a tube on the bottom of the system with a ball valve fitting on the end so you can drain it easier.

As a rule of thumb, whatever you think you need to spend on watercooling gear.. double it as that's what you will end up spending. You will easily find yourself spending upwards of 1k on watercooling stuff. Unless you've been doing it for some time and have lots of spares and parts around, i don't really think its worth doing these days. Water blocks for gpu and cpu have gotten so expensive as well, fittings etc easily start running into the hundreds. If you're serious about going down this route, do a ton of research, watch youtube videos and follow advice set out on this forum. It's a treasure trove of knowledge if you know where to look for it.

and should say
if you have access to ocuk MM
then picking up second hand parts
can seriously reduce the cost
obviously theres ebay too but you may have to deal
with issues on there
MM is WAY better
though i can never remember the MM requirements
for long term members before the required post count
was raised to 1,000
definitely seen long term members with around 250 posts in there

Thanks guys really insightful.

So, by the soujds it's something I might not do, but the question is, considering we are looking st almost 4 figures vs a couple of hundred of a AIO for my cpu, what's the point? Does it offer massively reduced heat? Or is it just the "cool" factor? I'll be honest, I have no issues with Temps, and am only considering it for the coolness factor, but are there benefits.

And if there isn't a huge benefit, am I better to get the best in class cpu cooler? Or again are the benefits over my average cool master one just deminishing?

Thanks

a lot of us have been doing it a very long time
in those days noise was a lot bigger factor
fans were way smaller than 120mm back then
and gpus and cpu coolers could sound like a jet engine
theres also temperature yes
my watercooled gpu barely hits 50c (2080ti)
cpu overclocked to 4.4ghz all 16 cores hits 70c max
running cinebench r23 all core test (5950x)
and yes aesthetics are also a big part for some people

Thank you, really appreciate it
Can't overstress how much qualifying for MM
Could help lower the cost
Even if it means posting until your fingers are numb lol
A lot of us are hoarders (me near top of the list lol)
But we can't be bothered with selling on ebay
As too many clowns on there
I would rather sell cheap on MM just to get rid of
Some older gear than bother with ebay

If you're not overly concerned about mismatched stuff
Or don't mind spray painting some tatty stuff
Not including your gpu block as that
Has to be specific for your precise gpu model
You could probably knock up a basic loop
For couple hundred quid

I have a 12700K oc'd to 5.1/4 cooled with a 360 AIO, and a 3080 TIFE.

Silent at idle, and can't hear the fans when I'm playing games as I crank up the volume.

I did think long and hard once about going custom a few years ago, but decided the extra maintenance hassle wasn't for me.

Thanks brother I'll look into it, I've got an airbrush and I'm not half bad, so that's not an issue.

I'llans I know the score if selling cheap to avoid the ebay clowns, sadly

Out of interest what's the cooler you use?

I'm looking like I'll go a smiliair route and use one of those tube isolating rgb sleeves

Looking at the LT720 currently

Bought a Corsair H150i Elite LCD, really happy with it.

He's only 879 posts away then lol
29.3 posts a day for a month (30 day month)
Job done :)
As for AIO the artic liquid freezer ii
Is probably still the one to beat
Especially for the price compared to corsair etc
That LT720 might have a bit more cooling capacity
But that's at the expense of more noise
