ReShade - convert 2D games to stereoscopic 3D for VR headset.

Has anyone tried Reshade to convert 2D games to stereoscopic 3D SBS format for viewing in a VR headset?

I'm considering going down the 3D game to SBS bigscreen/VD viewage and wondered if anyone had used it with any success?

Success with Wreckfest. Scouring Youtube for people that have got stuff dialled in and working is the best bet. Practically everything has to exactly right to get it working with decent results, in game options, the internal settings of the 3D injector, and scaled properly in VD.

Wreckfest has been the best result thus far, far better experience than with VorpX.

One final question to stretch the bounds of credulity. Would it be possible to run a 3D compatible game using Reshade, to get an SBS image and then send that to a headset via cable or wirelessly, to be viewed on Big Screen or VD.....

no not finished yet-

And clip a TrackIR setup to the VR headset and the monitor sensor would go where the VR screen appears to be, so that you're able play 3D games on a huge screen in a VR headset, and be able to pan round the big screen using the TrackIR instead of a keyboard or joystick top hat.

Oooookaaay.... Reshade works completely well in an old DX9 sim I fly, and the image is much better than in VorpX. If I move the BigScreen or Virtual Desktop screen closer to me it adds further to the immersion.
I also have a TrackIR 5 setup which after a little tweaking, by getting the screen movements to be just greater than the head movement, I'm unable to see the edges of the screen which effectively gives me a full VR experience.

Would probably work better in older pancake sims as there's less head movement, but definitely worth trying as it's free. https://reshade.me/

And you wouldn't believe how janky a Quest 2 looks with a track clip pro stuck to the side of it.

Amazingly, as you don't need a VR runtime to run pancake games and ReShade, I was able to get a game running in stereoscopic 3D streamed to the Q2 via Virtual Desktop from a complete potato core2duo laptop.

Additionally, Opentrack software (free) can be used as a head tracker to pan around using the data from the HMD accelerometers/gyros to give a meaningful VR funtionallity to the stereoscopic 3d games/sims.
I tried the Opentrack software with a Quest 2 and it works very well with the link cable and Airlink, but Opentrack doesn't detect the headset movements if you use Virtual Desktop (wirelessly) if you use the Oculus Rift Runtime 1.4.0--HMD input.
Open track does however detect the Quest 2 headset movement if you use the Valve SteamVR input and Virtual Desktop wirelessly.

The final cherry on the cake is to select 'headlock' mode in Virtual Desktop or BigScreen, so that you can't pan to see the edges of the large screen.

I’ve read this thread a few times now and it still doesn’t make any sense to me - but sounds cool. I really need to learn do more than play beat sabre on my q2

ReShade turns most pancake games to stereoscopic 3D, this can be viewed in a VR headset in 3D on a large screen, like you get in Virtual desktop.
If you curve the large screen and move it close enough to you, you don't see the edges, all you see is the 3D game. So if you use a game controller, keyboard or joystick to pan round all you see is the game in stereoscopic 3D. This is effectively VR. Opentrack removes the need for controllers to pan tilt so you can look round as you would in VR. Very difficult to describe, but amazing being in an old 2D game in VR.

Some older games don't support native head tracking, but instead have a right-click-mouse mode to pan around. TrackIR and Opentrack have mouse mode control, which moves the mouse when you move your head or pans around in-game when the right mouse button is depressed.
This is all well and good as long as you're not trying to control a joystick or wheel and also keeping the mouse button depressed. Software to the rescue, Mouse Keyboard Clicker Holder v2.0 allows you to have any of the mouse buttons depressed by using the keyboard to select/de-select it.

Hmmmmfff, it looks like I need to upgrade my monitor to 1440 or 4K to get a better image in VR. Using ReShade on pancake games is amazing but unfortunately the screen res is halved for left and right eye images. When this is viewed in the virtual desktop big screen there's a noticeable drop in the quality of the image. To confirm this further, I ran the game at 800 x 600 which was really bad in the headset.

Can you not just run desktop at 4k anyway?

In desktop enable super sampling set to 4k, never used reshade just thinking out the box for you

I have ran desktop at 4k on a 1080 monitor though and then streamed to quest 2, don't think I've done it on my pro yet though (might have a play when I'm home)

Enabled DSR in 4K-ness in nvidia control panel and a pancake lunar module simulator from 2004 is looking really nice in VR using ReShade.
