Singapore to execute a woman for first time in almost 20 years

Bring back the death penalty. No more expense housing the worst of the worst and that money could be funneled to do better (wishful thinking).

It's literally barbaric.

I think in Japan, if you kill two people you get the death penalty.

What's the logic here though? That heroin "might" result in the deaths of other people?

I'm genuinely surprised at that, I'd not have put you down as an advocate for the death penalty.
For certain crimes. I'm not saying we should be executing everyone or even drug smugglers but in principal I am not against. Life imprisonment is mental execution anyway so I'm not losing sleep over it.

I don't agree with a death penalty for drug offences. For murder beyond all absolute doubt, maybe. But there have been incidences of people being executed only to turn out later they were innocent.

Used to have similar views to some people in here. However I am now anti death penalty. It resolves nothing and given how flawed disclosure is in criminal litigation (here at least) the prospect of people being up for execution genuinely frightens me. Far too much scope for error and I wonder how many innocents over the years have had their lives stolen from them by the death penalty.

Singapore has its own laws, as do other states with the death penalty. I am glad I don’t live there.

With her 30g of heroin? Probably not many.

So you'd be up for the death penalty in the UK then? With your logic we'd better kill speeders and drink drivers too, you know how many people they kill each year?

Good old GD. Such a weird mix of *****.
I think you kill someone doing an absolutely wreckless speed or being ridiculously over the limit then sure. If a death penalty was in the UK thats just as a viable reason to give it...

I'm guessing she knew what the penalty for drug smuggling was, yet did it anyway...
Considering the absolute misery drugs like heroin cause, I struggle to care.
Could have been coerced into it for all we know.
She's not a king pin with 30g.

I'm surprised how many people support the death penalty given the incompetence and corruption amongst the police force. Not many of them I know, but still too many. One poor guy cleared just yesterday after serving 17 years for a crime he didn't commit, it could just as easily have been a murder conviction so theoretically he could have been executed.
