Ok, so i just got a 3060ti to replace my 1070ti.
I dual boot, so win 10 for game and stuff but i still have win 8 as it has all sorts of other programs etc installed - but nvidia doesn't seem to let you install a driver for win 8 - they have one for 7 but 8 no longer works.

Anybody know how to install one, even if its a simple one - i can't even get full 1440p resolution in win 8 anymore.

When I used to run Windows 8 with AMD cards, I'd extract the driver and install it directly into device manager using the INF file. With later versions I had to edit the INF file to inject some config from an earlier driver version (which had Windows 8 support). Are there any guides online to allow you to do something similar with nVidia cards?

It's a bit of messing about and of course, you won't be able to install the nVidia control panel but it should at least make the card usable.

Alternatively, you could move Windows 8.1 to a virtual machine which would give you a virtualised display adapter instead of interfacing directly with the 3060.

i will give the inf a go, do a bit of googling.

not really sure about the virtual machine route - i've never done anything like that before

the inf thing doesn't work - i can't seem to find anyone on goole who has done it.

Is there a generic driver that woud support 1440p? Its using a windows generic driver and only goes up to a crappy 1280x something. wont even give me 1080p as an option

I think this is the last driver that supported Windows 8 (471.96):

It supports your card in the release notes here.

NVIDIA further states that their final Game Ready Driver supporting Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 will be released on August 31st, 2021.

yeah that doesn't work - nvidia seem to have stopped it from working on win 8.

What about the guru3d or TPU mirror (* click older versions from the box, scroll down to right driver version, click download Windows 8, I then had to scroll up again, file name from the mirror: 471.96-desktop-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe)?

i mean installing it doesn't work - nvidia seem to have stopped it from installing somehow and it doesn't say i have a compatible card
