Remapping. Risky? Your thoughts?

To be honest I haven't done research on those indeed, they are unaffordable in NL, e.g. a Golf GTE is € 45k, a GTI was next to 60k I believe and an R is 80 K here.

Anything over 100 grams CO2/km gets so heavily taxed they are not worth buying here. The most popular new car model was a Tesla model 3 here in 2022 or 21 iirc because of the lack of extra tax. Diesel sales have completely crashed here as they are disencouraged.

Maybe not on the hybrids but the wet clutch DSGs fitted on the larger 2.0TDI/2.0TSI engines are generally considered stronger than the manuals and are looked on as the better platform for tuning.

It's not that they are strong, it's that the modern VW manual gearbox is weak. Quite a few failed in the manual Golf R, even stock ones.

The DQ250/DQ381 are incredibly strong. They'll take 500ft-lbs of Torque with some tuning to increase clutch clamping pressure, and well into 750 ft-lbs with nothing more than an upgraded clutch pack
