COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

And in the US there is now a #3

Due to the anti vaccine guff going into overdrive with covid and the republicans party latching onto it apparently something like 40% of pet owners are now questioning vaccines for their pets, including Rabies.

Are the US still using leaded petrol or something?

Deary me, the loons commenting in this article are beyond help.

Thanks for this, I had 30 minutes of fun with that this morning *clears browser cache*

Full on froth!

I think the problem vaccine providers and gov/health officials have is there are people who know someone who prior to catching covid had developed auto immune conditions following the vaccine.

I know 2 people myself and I'm sure there are others in this thread who know someone.

Gov/health officials seem reluctant to akcnowledge those concerns and thus I don't see how you move forward.

I personally think the gov won't acknowledge the concerns raised by the minority because of the risks of litigation.

On balance it looks like health officials position is developing auto immune conditions/inflammation is worth the risk if you stay alive. I think its ok to have that position but they need to inform people of the risk so they can make an informed decision.

At the moment it seems to be a blank void space, letting others fill it, and that seems a curious position to be in frankly.

It'll be interesting to see the vaccine position by the public, at least in the UK, as the 2 new vaccines aren't mrna, Novavax and VidPrevtyn Beta.

Most have vaccine fatigue, very few people at work will go along with it any more.

I think the 45 downvotes and 1 upvote that the one actually correct comment got is equally striking.

If it wasn't for the human cost I almost want the "big one" to come along to confound these people :(

3rd time I’ve had Covid and now onto day 12 of still testing positive(1st and 2nd time I tested positive for 10 days), symptoms have gone apart from the flemy cough. if I’m still testing positive on a LFT after 12 days does that mean I’m still going to be contagious?
My immunocompromised wife tested positive for 6 days with the help of Paxlovid, hopefully no rebound.

If symptoms are subsiding probably not contagious, probably. Theoretically you could still spread it but probably at so low levels now the chances are extremely unlikely.

IIRC my grandad was testing positive for 19-20 days or so, don't know anyone else who was after 11 days.

You will test positive while still clearling the virus and coughing up gunk. Great to hear your wife is on Paxlovid, it’s very effective and fingers crossed it’s passed.

I was wondering what ones they will be as the second iteration must be way out of date now. Any idea what these are based on? Omicron?

I thought the Gunk was dead cells and some people have the cough for months , I have felt fine throughout the whole 12 days, just the stupid cough and congestion, I actually had a really dry cough for a week previous but tested negative every time I checked.

Dead cells, viral particles and antibodies. The soup of war. Tests will pick up bits of virus.

So is the LFT picking up live or dead virus after 12 days?

Antigen tests are looking for specific markers of the virus, normally if it is a distinct and rapidly appearing line then it will be live virus, if it takes longer and/or is fading then it may be virus remnants or low concentration of the virus.
