EV general discussion

I dunno indicators on steering buttons is an even worse cost reduction step from Tesla

I doubt anyone looking at a little EX30 is looking for a car as big as a Tesla mind you, the Telsa is almost as big a footprint as my XC60 if not a touch longer and it barely fits in most parking spots in town, not an ideal city car.

I liked this real world example of why range isn't the be-all and end-all:

Out of all the videos I have watch I think this one has help me just decided on the Tesla, model 3 SR. If work give me a bigger allowance I might push to the LR but probably more for performance over range.

In other news, EV's aren't ready for the main stream yet: (Do not watch unless you want to throw things at the screen)..

What like this guy.

15 hr 24 min total time
1hr 23 min charging

This guy must have a bladder made of steel! I would need to stop for longer than that just for bio brakes.

Ow, and the first comment on the video

One and a half hours to charge. Bloody ridiculous. Buy yourself a real car.

For one person to drive that in one day is epic!

I've done 970 miles in a day in my Model S, 13 hours 28 mins driving and 1hr 13 mins charging.

The first two Superchargers I stopped at were V2 so I suspect if they were V3 I could have knocked a few minutes off!

Guessing the embargo for this has expired then.

This look huge inside - I'd probably go for 6 seat option, which appears like it can seat 6 adults in more comfort than Economy class on a long range flight. Liking the Matt Blue colour :)

The price seems about right too :
  • £30k+ cheaper than the German rivals, which don't have the 3rd row seating.
  • Same price difference with the Volvo EX90, which does have 3rd row seating.

Non of the Genesis EV models come with heated seats, and you can’t spec it separately, outside of a 3k comfort or innovation related pack.
It’s the same with adaptive cruise - that needs another Tech pack ticked.

All this pushes up the monthly price by another £150-£200
Yeah I was just digging back in to this yesterday.

GV70 EV was not on my radar at all, I don't even think I had heard of it until last week when I saw it on Leaseloco.

Having watched a bunch of Youtube videos in some spare time I had yesterday, I came away convinced this would be the perfect replacement for my Polestar 2 - Similar power (actually more), Identical range, but much quicker charging speed, larger boot, more comfort, more luxury, more cabin space, whisper quiet etc.

But the base spec really is poverty stuff for this class of car. They are worse than BMW.

I worked out I would want (at a minimum):

Innovation pack:
  • 12.3'' 3D Cluster TFT Display
  • Head-Up Display
  • Highway Driving Assist II (HDA II)
  • Quad LED Headlamps with Intelligent Front Lighting System (IFS)
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA-JX)
  • Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM)
  • Reverse PCA (Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist)
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA)
  • Surround View Monitor (SVM)

Convenience Pack & 2nd row comfort seat pack:
  • Automatically dimming Exterior Mirrors
  • Heated Seats (Front & Rear)
  • Heated Steering Wheel
  • Rear Air Condition: Auto Temp. Control (3rd Zone)
  • Premium Cabin Filter
  • Rear Seat Manual Door Curtain
  • Laminated Rear Glass

Lexicon Premium Audio:
  • Lexicon Premium Sound System
  • Active Road Noise Cancelling

And would probably also want (though not essential):

Comfort Seat Pack
Nappa Leather
Sunroof Pack (Panoramic sunroof)
Matt Grey Paint

Suddenly it's £400 a month more and you are in the realm of the BMW ix 50

if the ev9 was available at the start of the year i would have got it but needed a car. Honestly i had the brand new SMAX so much if i could trade it in without loosing too much it would go. Needed oil change at 9k miles from onboard computer and then they do it again at 15k when the service is scheduled.

is the vw ID7 on the menu ? - they've reduced pre-prices, has the size, DCC, german refinement. .. up with your old 5 series(estate was it?) size.

Thats a lot of car for the money and so much nicer looking than an IX!!!!

Fully loaded its £78,805 which puts the German manufacturers to shame. Similar specced cars from them would be £100k.

The problem is that lease deal is cheap as its an in stock car. As soon as you want to change anything then its £302.51 more for a factory order. But if you look on Genesis site, there are cars with the spec you want already being built for around £73000. I am sure you would be able to get a lease on that for less than the ix50.

A fully loaded GV70 does undercut the iX50, but then the iX has a bit more power and quite a lot more range.
Obviously a base spec iX50 will also need some options ticking, (as it's just an iX40 with more power and a larger battery), which widens the price gap further.

When I was ordering in April this year a BMW iX40 with £5k of options, was £120 a month cheaper than a base spec GV70, so it was a no brainier to go for the iX, which I was informed yesterday is being delivered to BMW in London W/C 4th December, so I should have it before Xmas :)

The ideal car would be a Polestar 3 - about the same cost an optioned up GV70, but with more range and a similar price to a base spec iX50, and the Launch Edition P3 doesn't need any options adding. Just a shame they delayed UK deliveries to Q4 2024 :(

The other downside on the GV70 for me- the main infotainment screen is too small [it's wide but not very tall]

Not to **** on your parade, as they are good cars.

But on public chargers they are so slow. Even the facelifted versions haven't improved that.
i agree charging speed is not the ipaces strong suit..... but i get 60 - 70 kwh kind of rate up to 85%ish....... this for me is absolutely fine, i can do 200 miles, stop on a service station, grab a sandwich and a loo break and then am good to go for another 150 miles or so.

would i like it to be a bit faster? sure i guess, but i would much rather have loads more 100kw charge points so i can know i can reliably charge at the max my car can do without having to queue than i would having a super fast to charge car which i barely have enough time to go for a toilet stop before its full.

but again that is me. i may feel differently if i was reliant on public charging for more than a hand ful of times a year.

Yep, whilst faster charging would always be welcome, if we stop for food or a coffee and stretch our legs, I'm usually rushing back early to grab the car once its hit 80% anyway.. if it was twice as fast, I'd hardly have time to queue for the inevitable mcLatte..
