EV general discussion

Ive noticed EV and PHEV are tumbling in prices recently. Noticed a MK8 golf GTE for low 20's with around 18k on the clock. I might actually be tempted by this.

Car market full stop has burst. Taycan's being offered at £10k to £50k off list price depending on the model.

Porsche became the cash cow VW used to cover all the costs of dieselgate. The gap between manufacturing cost and list price is huge, far bigger than most cars. They are extremely overpriced.

The trouble with the Taycan is that it was expensive to start with and the options list is utterly ludicrous

You need to option about £25k worth of stuff

Easily done. Porsche offers way too many options to personalise your car and they soon add up.

Just been offered this which has £15k of options on a 4S cross Turismo

  • Total on the road price £110,278
  • Less £12859.35 discount
  • = £97,418.65 new on the road price

I've read the profit margin on a Taycan is 40% for Porsche. No idea if that is true.

I really like the look of the ipace but the recharging rate is putting me right off! Its range isn’t the greatest meaning that an in trip recharge would be more likely but pretty much impossible with such a low charging rate.

This looks pretty nice spec

Gravitating towards a Polestar2 with all the packs but tricky to find one that’s still in manufacturers warranty (2021) is tricky!

Found this but the dealer won’t budge and I think it’s over priced.

Tesla 3s don’t really do for me but maybe head is going to win over heart, there are just so many benefits!

This is just down the road from me, might take a look at the weekend

What’s the issue with a few extra minutes occasionally ? The range is real on the ipace as it’s a massive battery. It will also get 200miles plus even in winter.

The interiors of model 3 are no where near an ipace and the seating position isn’t the most comfortable in my experience

All Im saying compared to its other vehicles the ipace has a slow recharge rate, for me buying my first EV it’s a consideration. That said the ipace in my post above is gorgeous so I’m very tempted.

How often do you do long journeys? I don’t find it an issue tbh but for me it’s once every few months

I would recommend a used approved one with 2 year warranty plus discount, free charger etc and go without the big wheels and air suspension but of course if you have to have it that will reduce the choice a lot more

Edit:

Here’s one with the bigger wheels

I already have a charger and the cars above don't have matrix lights, HUD etc but I'll keep looking :)

I do at least 2 x trips of 250 miles per month down to see my Dad hence my range anxiety, both the Tesla and Polestar would do those on 1 charge.

I miss my iPace but I wouldn't want it for your use pattern.

The Tesla won’t on a motorway in my experience. I guess you can charge it at destination ? I doubt the polestar will either. 250miles on a motorway is always a challenge. Even more in winter.

Or do you mean 125miles each way?

So you're saying a Tesla LR won't do 250 miles?

I could charge at my destination but that's what's putting me off the iPace, its recharge rate is slow.

I bought a Polestar 2 in July - 2022 Long Range Single Motor with the Pilot Pack and 20” wheels, 17k miles for 34k.

What come with the plus pack that you really need? I initially went looking for the ‘one with everything’ becuase that’s how I like my cars, but it really didn’t have anything that I NEEDED that justified the price increase. I’d have loved one with the leather now I’ve had the cloth for 5 months but they’re incredibly rare unfortunately.

I haven’t driven it from full to empty but it summer my weekly drive of 150 miles to work was using 58% of the battery on motorway driving. It’s definitely dropped in efficiency since it got colder and I’m using the heater, but I would plan on 250 miles being the top end of what you’ll get if you drive sensibly.

Yeah I've though about not bothering with the perf pack tbh, I can find what I want if I drop this pack. I can see 250 miles being on the 'edge' but a very quick 'squirt' at a charger should get me home.

From auto express 'Polestar claims a range of 298 miles, although in the cold weather I’ve been achieving around 240 miles, with an economy figure of 3.8mi/kWh'

If it’s the latest version with the heat pump then yes it should, just about if driven sensibly. If you are falling short you’ll literally need 3-4 minutes on a charger.

If you drive it at above the speed limit and smash the ‘go’ pedal at every opportunity, then no it won’t.

Don’t forget, an iPace you only need to recharge 25% on a 250 mile journey. And even in an iPace with it’s slower speeds, that doesn’t take that long. There may even be a public charger close by that you can use while the car is parked.

Also have you considered plugging in at your destination on a 3 pin and giving your dad a few £ for the leccy used?

Edit: if you are looking at an iPace then the Audi etron (now the Q8 etron) should also be on the list. Similar range, decent quality interior like the iPace but much faster charging.

That must be with the standard range model. I haven’t seen less than 3 mpkwh in any condition yet, summer was about 3.7 and it’s about 3.3 in the current temps.
