EV general discussion

Depends on your battery size and how consistent your charging speed is, no?

My Polestar can do 150kw charging, but not for very long.

Yup, my model 3 will only max out at 170kw but it’s relatively small 60kwh battery and very efficient drive train means it’s adding real range very quickly.

unfortunately the iPace is the worst of all world in that regard. Slower charging, huge battery and high consumption means the real range being added per minute is a lot lower than it’s direct competitors, particularly the etron.

It may not be an issue for you and it’s fair to say most iPace owners like the vehicle and don’t find it problematic.

And if you are buying it second hand you have the best asset, non thrashed battery packs. Huge battery isnt really a problem as the car is so light is not a mass penalty and means the charging is barely above 1C.

C rate of cells done care for 400V or 800V upstream HV bus.

It's not worth arguing about to be fair, if someone is worried about long trips no amount of reasoned argument is going to change their mind because at the end of the day it's not a quantitative problem just a feeling.

And there are plenty of good EVs out there, something for (almost) everyone at that kind of price point of £30-35k.

My I Pace range is holding up surprisingly well. Efficiency has barely dropped which is handy as I am still limited to 72% battery thanks to a dodgy cell that is taking an absolute age to get into stock and sorted.

Well, I was wavering between an EV on SS and a cheap beater. Opted for the beater, just put deposit down on an Avensis Tourer diesel. Will run that until it dies and hopefully the charging infrastructure will be caught up enough to make it practical for people without off street parking.

Just as well I bought a Toyota as it'll probably be 2035 before that happens :p

Rather drive an ipace than a model 3. But I guess that doesn’t matter if it’s all about the peak charging speed right ?

No one bought a Yaris for better mpg then a proper car so I really don’t understand the obsession with numbers

Tbf people do buy cars based on mpg. And it's not just the peak speed on the Tesla, its the charging network.

If like myself where I do 99% of my charging at home then it really doesn't matter

Gotcha, I'm not trying to be controversial, this is my first EV so I think it's natural to be a little nervous but understand all your points completely.
The other aspect, is assuming occasional charging on public infrastructure, check your journeys, if there are Tesla only superchargers then by far those are usually your best option, but obvs need to have a tesla..

After having the ID.3 for over 2 years now, we’ve realised that public charging for our longer journeys is always more frought with way more planning required, so we are trying a Model Y this time, even though I’m not a fan of the looks, and wish it had a HUD, our increase in public charging needs means I just want the easiest time when travelling and so after test driving a MYLR and finding it more than acceptable, we just want something the Mrs won’t mind taking on longer journeys, because now, she leaves that up to me and I do all the planning.

Each to their own, despite their relative inefficiency, the iPace is a looker and lovely inside, probably the most underrated EV at present.

Are you finding insurance is much of a muchness amongst contenders & versus ICE.

chargers : after hearing about scam(defrauding) QR codes on parking - seems they're on chargers too
We have been made aware that QR codes displayed on some of our chargers may be manipulated by fraudsters and lead customers to payment websites, which are NOT related to IONITY.

Personally I am finding the charging to be a real PITA. Around town etc it's fine but realistically public transport is faultless as well.....longer journeys I begrudge the waiting around. I know I am not normal but I can easily drive huge distances without needing to stop. Having to recharge ever 400km or so is just painful. Eg a round trip to Wien is roughly 13 hours of driving...and even if I start at 100% charge I still need to waste an additional 4 hours charging and this is assuming driving sensibly. So around 17 hours in total. Realistically if I still had my Porsche it would be less than 12 hours as I would average 200+ on the autobahn. I might stop for 5 mins for a pissbreak if needed but that would be about it.

But on the plus side charging is free so saves 170 CHF probably in electric costs and around 350 CHF if I was paying for fuel. But honestly saving over petrol is only valuing your time at 90 CHF an hour so does not stack up at all.

So yeah it was a mistake purchase but in fairness so far it's done the job well aside from that.

It's not an HSE, it's really expensive for what it is, but it is the facelifted Pivi Pro model

Yeah early morning searching meant my brain wasn’t in gear.

Spec on this looks very nice, you also get 2K off if you use Jags finance and a charger which I can put on Ebay as I have a Zapppi 2.1 already :)

I do like the look of this

But I don’t think is the facelift model?
It’s 22MY so year after. The lack of Jaguar on the doors is the give away. It’s where the features start to drive off aswell due to semi conductors.

Basically you need to find my old blue car as that was awesome.

Very few Faralon black which is better than Santorini but I don’t think the dark colours work in the UK. Windsor performance seats good.

Personally there’s an advantage to go for 2021 MY. You get cameras and HUD and more value. CarPlay wireless and Alexa is all SOTA aswell so you don’t miss anything.

A lot of employee Arval cars are coming to an end so soon to be a flood of OV70 plate 21MY cars I expect.

If you’re choosing between two otherwise very similar cars and you’re going to be putting a lot of miles on the one you chose, then even a 5% difference in fuel economy could be a deciding factor.
