EV general discussion

Very few Faralon black which is better than Santorini but I don’t think the dark colours work in the UK. Windsor performance seats good.

Personally there’s an advantage to go for 2021 MY. You get cameras and HUD and more value. CarPlay wireless and Alexa is all SOTA aswell so you don’t miss anything.

A lot of employee Arval cars are coming to an end so soon to be a flood of OV70 plate 21MY cars I expect.

Yeah early morning searching meant my brain wasn’t in gear.

Spec on this looks very nice, you also get 2K off if you use Jags finance and a charger which I can put on Ebay as I have a Zapppi 2.1 already :)

You not looked at the Kia EV6 or Ioniq 5? You can get some decent deals on well specified EV6's, much better range and charging speeds, probably lower insurance costs as well.

I'm just not a fan of the styling of EV6 or Ioniq 5, bit like the Tesla3 I'm sure it a fantastic bit of kit but it's just not something I want to own.

Road noise and vehicle NVH is poor in those and the inverter on top of the rear motor gives you really poor boot space too.

If you’re choosing between two otherwise very similar cars and you’re going to be putting a lot of miles on the one you chose, then even a 5% difference in fuel economy could be a deciding factor.

It’s bit like preferring a fiesta to a Mondeo for the better mpg on long trips… reality the attributes effect the quality of the trip much more.

What is the general thoughts on BMW i4 (msport 40) vs Tesla MY LR? Both are about the same price to me as a company car.

BMW, feels more premium and lot less space and compared to the Tesla needs a few k on extras to make it comparable spec. Software and supercharger network (unless you are wedded to android auto or carplay ) Tesla far ahead.

Both good cars.

BMW will have better suspension and you can spec higher comfort interior at a cost.

Tesla will have more space, much better charging network.

Tesla has some great tech and app. But also a few niggles, Iack of parking sensors and fine tuning windscreen wipers.

The Tesla will be easier to live with if you ever need to public charge.

Thanks for the insight. I will be charging outside aswell as home, 2 of my regular trips (once every 6 weeks) are a 450 mile round trip, one customer funnily enough is on a Tesla charging site (Havant ).

Just had a look at the MG4 pricing for giggles. I would get £25 a month for taking one of those, question is could you stomach something like that for 4 years and 80k miles think I would have to be paid a hell of a lot more….a hell of a lot

Model 3 LR are well priced, but the lack of a hatch is non starter, living with a saloon for the last 3 years has been a tough gig.

The issue with tesla opening their older sites is they don’t meet the new public charging regs which they’ll have to be compliant with by the end of 2024.

So unless they are going to replace ~1000 chargers in the next year, they aren’t opening up any time soon. If they don’t/can’t change out the existing 25 open sites which have v2/3 units in time, they’ll have to close to non-tesla owners.

I think it’s pretty common knowledge now that all new sites are going to be open to all going forward though.

Whenever i stop at services the tesla charger queue full of taxis is massive.
South mimms? **** site but not exactly a representative sample of the network.

I dont see how. Theres now so amny other chargers in uk snd tesla are opening them up. Whenever i stop at services the tesla charger queue full of taxis is massive.
This feels like a troll post tbh. There are a few sites that are busy. But the vast majority are very rarely over half full, well positioned, always working, cheap (in comparison), plug and play and the nav will automatically route via them, even rerouting to a less busy site if a site is busy.

The picture gets even better in the big EU countries.

Just got back from a long journey in the Q8, and please to say it performed brilliantly.

I set off this morning with the car pre-heated and at 100% and the range was showing 193 miles.

The journey is around 112 each way - so I'd planned a contingency stop at either Cobham, Maidstone or Faversham depending on how close I got to the estimate doing motorway speeds.

First leg of the journey went better than expected. I got there with 52% left. The journey home was a few miles shorter due to a closed road, so tried it.... and made it.

Overall it managed 2.8m/kwh for the first leg and 2.9m/kwh the second leg. 114m + 108m and had 22 miles range left at the end. So theoretically a 244 range. 4 hours 43 minutes total driving time, in one charge. I did the whole journey at 63mph (60 according to GPS).

My respect for the car has grown immensely.

60mph must be pretty tedious ! I think my cupra would do about 4.5-5m/kWh at that speed

Not sure below 3 is impressive really. It’s a big piece of metal to move through the air and it shows.

Spotted a funky cat in the wild yesterday, can't be many of those about.
Seen quite a few of them locally, seems to be a popular car.

As to the speed thing, there never seems to be much difference in journey times between 60-70 mph in real world driving, especially as it seems harder and harder to actually do those speeds on UK roads.

Most likely average speeds and no, your Cupra would not get 4.5-5/kWh at those speeds in Nov. I have been in a colleagues ID.3 enough times know it gets about 3.5ish/kWh at moderate 60ish mph motorway speeds in colder weather. On a recent trip to Dublin this ID.3 owner colleague complained of sub 3mi/kWh at 120kph.

Even Bjorn Nylands Cupra tests along with EVDB back those numbers up.

I don’t mind calling out the E-Tron for being inefficient (I owned one and now own an I-Pace) but don’t fall in to the trap of massively exaggerating your Cupra efficiency to do it.

Right about what I get in the I-Pace at current Nov temperatures at typical avg motorway speeds. My 1st gen E-Tron would have been about 2.6 at best. So they have improved efficiency in the newer model… it has gone from crap to just poor :D

Honestly, the whole efficiency thing is overblown unless you do very long range trips regularly. I don’t mind taking longer to charge in my I-Pace during those rare long range trips, because the other 99% of them time it charges at home. At most it costs me an extra £150 per year to charge compared to a Model Y, but then I’d be stuck in a car that looked like Admiral Ahkbar. ;)
