EV general discussion

Lotus keep pushing Eletre and Emeya averts to my FB and Twitter feeds - making me wish I could swap my iX for one, and it hasn’t even arrived yet

I would absolutely love an Eletre. They look pretty good, the range is massive and the reviews are very good.

I don't think my customers would appreciate me driving around in it though, and it's quite expensive to lease (about on par with an ix M60)

What are peoples thoughts on rapid charger congestion fees?

I’ve always thought the concept of idle fees which kick in once charging completes to be reasonable. They have been in place across the Tesla network for a long time now.

But as we all know, the last 20% can take as long as the first 80% and despite this, there is a not insignificant amount of people who charge well beyond the level they actually need and often all the way up to 100% because they don’t know better or are worried about getting a charge later.

It would seem that Tesla are now also rolling out a $1 a minute fee when the charge level hits 90% to replace idle fees at certain sites in the US. The idea is to move people along more quickly. There is a 5 minute grace period currently so the real % it kicks in will be a bit higher than 90%.

I think this is workable for the most part but I’d say 90% is about as low as they should go.

I don't think I've ever reached 90% on a fast charger, so - fine by me.

I have had to wait while someone charged their EV all the way to 100% on the only available charger. Nothing I could do but wait an extra half hour slowly watching it tick up each %.

I'm for it. Although it's going to make having a coffee pretty tricky without moving the car, given how surprisingly long it seems to take to order, get and drink a coffee.

They are pushing hard for sales lots of events around the country and an anniversary event this weekend if you sign up on there site, I've signed up for test drives, why not :D though I'm more interested in the non EV Emira I'm driving Friday.

Seems sensible to charge to 90% when recommend to 80% as we need more chargers around though.

Wish i had the cash the new lotus looks nice, if there's a test drive i might have to give it a go.

I have no problem with public fast chargers costing more money at 90%+ to be honest. A lot of cars have apps you can monitor the charge on.

Test drove the GV70 electrified today. The version they drove to me was fully loaded with matt green paint, which looked surprisingly nice in real life (not sure pictures do it justice)

The HUD is so clear. Last time I used one was on a rental in America in 2014 and that was decent but this was another level.

Unfortunately it only arrived with 38% SOC, so I'm not sure how limited the power was - It didn't feel like a slouch by any means, but my Polestar 2 DM 350KW still felt a bit quicker.

Got a quick snap as they were driving off

On boost mode the GV70 has similar performance to the P2.

What did you think of it?

Lovely inside. Handles well enough for a heavy SUV. Turning circle is actually better than the Polestar, so it's easier to park.

Didn't feel as sporty as the Polestar but then the GV70 is an ICE platform SUV and the Polestar 2 is lower and more of a standard car height.

It didn't blow me away but I could happily drive one for 2 years. The tech was impressive.

Sunroof didn't feel essential. A bit like the polestar you can't see it from the drivers position - but it does actually open which is a plus point.

Strange, I really liked the interior. I'll admit it is quite unadventurous as far as EVs go though. Very comfortable though.

The GV70 is interesting. It reminds me a bit of a 500l.

Can't argue with price.
