Self Build PC - help spec me

for £16 extra I'd go for the b650e-e over the b650e-f. It's a better board and in my opinion the led debugger is worth £16 on it's own. if you're not bothered about pcie5 etc and just want a decent board, not too expensive, then also take a look at the Asus Tuf Gaming B650-plus wifi. It's on offer at £149.99 atm. I'd still pair it with the 7800X3D mind, and the 7800x3d doesn't draw too much power, so you can easily get away with a cheap cpu air cooler for £40.
and OC have corsair dominator 6000C36 for £125 or if you lile the corsair vengeance but want rgb, you can get 6000C36 for £116 away atm

Yeah, @Tetras had put that in the build earlier today so I was considering using this one with the 7800X3D

I dont mind paying for a good spec but £100 seem quite a bit for, essentially, PCI-E 5...

I will look at air coolers. TBH I don't plan on overclocking this build at all. I was I let looking at AIOs for aesthetics in all honesty.

Appreciated

I wanted to give the people who helped me a quick thanks again especially @Tetras ..

Just about to click the button on the following. A couple of minor amendments (I wanted a secondary removable drive as a backup and store for things so reduced the OS drive to 1TB and added a 2TB Sata SSD.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £2,442.91 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Unfortunately the MB has went pre-order so not sure if there is an equivalent (also heard reports about the TUF boards not being great for heat or something?

I wanted to build it in a Hyte Y60 but the GPU cooling.would have likely been an issue as it's a 3 card thick GPU :( so switched to the GT501 case

Hopefully there isn't a glaring issue with these components working together or if I left something out ?

Something like the B650 Gaming X AX or B650 Tomahawk, though neither has a PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slot.

I'll check then out, thanks.

Should the reports about overheating and failures on the TUF board with the 7800X3D be concerning? I won't be overclocking at all (just stock) and I appreciate the reports are about a year or so old so likely to be fixed?

I like the "look" of the board (which I know shouldn't be a factor over quality/features)

So far as we know, the burnout issues with Asus have been addressed and they list the BIOS with the updates in their downloads, so if you want to take precautions then immediately update the BIOS (if it ships with an old one) so that it includes the SOC/voltage limits and don't enable EXPO/XMP until you have done so.

is this mainly a build for gaming? just curious as you're using a 1tb nvme for OS which is fair enough, and then a 2tb sata drive for game storage...for that price of £109, go for something like a gen4 2tb sn850X for the same price...you need a pcie nvme drive for direct storage to work, otherwise you'll have to store your games on the sata drive, then move it over to the nvme drive to get the full speed so to speak, not to mention it's read /write spead is 560/530 mb/s....the sn850x is 7300/6000 mb/s so a fair order of magnitude bigger
tuf board will be fine..as stated, new bios sorted problem of cpu overheating a while ago qith asus boards...asus caught in the crosshairs but effected other manufacturers too..if can't wait for tuf and paying up, the strix b650e-f is a good alrounder also, but I'd prob just wait for tuf board

Yeah it's going to be a gaming rig with some potential WFH usage and other basic internet stuff (nothing productivity or anything)

I'll take a look at the drives... I moved away from the pci SSD for the secondary drive as I wanted something I can quickly remove and plug into another if need be. I may just switch this to another PCI style drive.

Apologies it took a little time to update this. The MB was (and still is) on pre-order with no date so I unfortunately had to purchase elsewhere at the same cost albeit a few quid delivery. Slightly change to final spec on post 23 - Swapped Kraken Elite 240 for Kraken Elite 360 RGB and swapped the Samsung SDD for a 2TB of the same 1TB MSI Spatium I will use as the OS drive.

Anyways, all built up. Need to look at better cable management but I'll enjoy using it first

Thanks again to the people that gave advice @Tetras especially

Couple of rushed potato pics:

Nice looking PC! I even like the TUF case and RGB, which I'd have never have picked myself.

Cheers :)

TBH the case was a spur of the moment after realising the Hyte Y60 wouldn't work with the GPU. It's actually a decent case and you can hide all manner of cable ugli-ness under the PSU shroud (think Monica's cupboard in Friends if you know what I mean ).

Gives off a utilitarian look as well with the paint finish and big straps on the top.

I only got Windows 11 installed just before I took those photos so got a lot of tweaking and stuff to do.

I have no idea what you mean, but it is a big case, so I get it :D

Yeah, it is a lot like the P600, which I recommend a lot in my specs. Those must be very strong straps if the case is as heavy as it looks.
