Tool Chest/Cabinet Recommendations

I'd like to buy a decent quality tool cabinet for my garage, so I have plenty of space to organise my tools. I have some Dewalt Storage boxes for my power tools, so this would mostly be everything else as I'm sick of struggling to find tools as they're currently scattered all over. I've seen lots of recommendations for SGS add Halfords Advanced. I'd like something that's got good quality ball bearing drawers of different heights and ideally soft close, but that's not a deal breaker. Any other brands that I should be looking at? I'm only a hobbiest/diy grade and so not looking for snap-on cost here

I have had a Halfords Professional box for years. The only issue I had was the bracket for the top lid kept getting caught so I ripped it off in the end. The ball bearing drawers are the main thing to look out for. Machine Mart stuff is normally top cush too.

Halfords and SGS are good choices as are Teng but a bit more expensive.

I'd love something that has shadow foam in the drawers for certain items but cheapened out and just got some rubber matting on a roll and lined the drawers myself.

I really need a COSHH cabinet for all the chemicals that I've acquired over the years but they are silly money. Thinking about just getting an ordinary stationary cupboard and making a sump for the bottom of it.

Had my "SGS 26IN PROFESSIONAL 7 DRAWER" for 2 years now and would buy it again (probably should do as i need more space) - doesn't see heavy use but all functions as new and i'd expect to continue doing so for years/decades. Not soft close but nice ball bearing rails that feel good to me.

I've got a nice BETA wheel Box, with a Halford professional on top. Be wary of some brands being cheap, somebody at work ordered some cheap ones and they look like a kids toy, the depth is about 2/3rds a normal sized one.
I have a wheel jack from sgs (only thing I've got from them), but I'm happy with the quality.

Another vote for SGS and Halfords chests, I have one of the SGS 72" rolling chest cabinet things and it's great, and have a selection of Halfords cabinets/chests, though I would say the latest gen isn't as good as the older models :p

I've always idly fancied a proper tool cab but how do you manage it when you need to use your tools somewhere other than your garage? I've got my most commonly used tools split between a 3 workshop tier trolley thing and an old fashioned cantilever toolbox, so i can just pick up my small tool box and take it with me into the house or to a track day or whatever but if they were all organised nicely in a big cabinet do you just grab an arm full of stuff and then organise it back after you get home?

I added to my Snap-On cabs a few years ago when Homebase were going through the failed Bunnings transformation and were selling off gear and bagged a few kinchrome evolve cabs.

Obviously they are not Snap-On or Mac Tools quality, but are imo perfect for home or small garage.

It was also at that time I was thinking of Halfords, as their gear is pretty good quality, but the silly sales got my attention.

I. Sure Halford do a none pro version of most/all their stuff, not sure if it's a lesser product or not as I've only bought the Pro stuff.
The standard Halfords stuff was pretty poor when I looked at it. Slide drawers (i.e. non ball bearing) which didn't open smoothly or square and jammed. Flimsy doors and thin metal. Essentially the quality you'd get from a generic rebranded cheap import.

I'll check mine as I'm not actually sure off the top of my head.

I'm sure that would be pretty much the same across the whole market to a price point.

The Advanced gear at Halfords looks half decent and is not badly priced.

Yep. Any low end will have crap drawers. The pro stuff definitely is ball bearing. Mine is 16 years old and working great.

Yeah the standard Halfords stuff is £50 a cabinet or whatever and that's probably about right. You can probably save £5 or £10 and get an equivalent unknown branded cabinet from Amazon though.

The Advanced/Pro stuff is often on offer and while more expensive, it represents good value as it's a good chunk cheaper than the equivalent quality from other brands. Or that was the case when I was looking at least.
