Hi all,

Currently got no GPU as don’t use my PC all that much so looking for a cheap ish card that can still play games at least half decent… I’ve got the opportunity to grab a Vega 56 Air boost for £50 - I’m guessing I can’t do much better than that?

Thanks all! I’m picking it up tonight, I’m sure the air boost has Samsung memory so might be able to flash a Vega 64 Bios onto it… should be interesting! I’ll post back later this evening thank you for your input

I’ve picked the card up will test shortly - quick question I believe this has got Samsung Memory. Going to attempt a reflash to Vega 64 Vbios. A few questions please:

What Vbios can I download? It’s the MSI Air Boost model
What position does the bios switch need to be in? Left or right?

it's only a 5-10% gain going from a vega 56 to a "true" vega 64
not worth the risk of bricking the card unless you really really want to try imo

Card is working fine albeit I had issues at first with no display. A DDU appears to have sorted the issue. It’s temperamental with the bios switch in the left position but in the right it’s fine. It’s running hot though! I guess it is a 6 year old card stock paste. Also I’ve noticed the Taco reading is blank with no color leds is this normal?

MSI air boost will run hot. Vegas run very hot without an undervolt at the best of times...running a blower cooler on a vega even moreso
yes, reapplying the thermal paste may help

Thank you will give a repaste an attempt. Any idea about the Tacho GPU reading not showing anything? Should I be concerned?

These cards were well over juiced. From memory I managed to get mine down to 1080 mv. It’s a great card for tinkering with.

Thank you all for your responses, I’m going to give it a repaste today and have a tinker. I was impressed with it yesterday if I’m being honest and that was at stock. Also it’s Hynix memory so a reflash is out of the question anyway :)

i used to have an msi vega 56 was a good card, if i remember rightly there was a switch to turn the taco leds off. still miss those led's they are the only useful led's that have been on a gfx card.

Ahh thank you I didn’t know that so will have a look - I’ve just repasted and it’s made a massive difference. Stock settings just plug the GPU in and it’s topped at 68 degrees vs 83 previously so is actually decent noise wise.. will start to tinker and undervolt now though to get the sweet spot of temps, noise & performance
