My boy (almost 7 years of age) has recently started playing Roblox on the Xbox and seems hooked on it. Started it as all his mates are playing it from school.

Can anyone explain to me what on earth it is and why it's so painfully crap, to me it's all mostly nonsensical, seems to be heavily money related ( I refuse to purchase any robucks) the graphics and the controls are appalling, the game console software is horrendously buggy, it's evidently optimized for pc or tablet,

Mostly seems to be shooting and stabbing people for the sake of it with very few actual goals to win the game.

I'm trying to get him off of playing it, by introducing other games, and it works for a short period and then he's back on it again. Short of removing it from the Xbox and blocking it (this may cause a significant meltdown) maybe I need to understand it better.

(I've also shutdown and locked out all forms of communication via Xbox, so no one can chat or message him, online safety is top priority)

Luckily his tablet is not good enough to run Roblox

I think you're seriously overthinking a game aimed at kids. Perhaps the understanding should be that as an adult you aren't going to get various fads that other generations fall in to.

Do a Google search for “spent fortune on Roblox” you’ll be amazed at how many kids have run up bills into the thousands.

Although you might question parents not monitoring their kids actions, you do have to question the paid element of a game aimed at kids

Yes I agree, I've told him no money will be spent on the game and purchase options have been disabled

My daughter (7) loves Roblox and plays often. I've disabled the ability for her to chat, so she also can't see chat. I ignore all friend requests unless they are friends from school. I watch the games she plays, and any I don't think are appropriate I will have her play something else, on the rare occasion I've even reported someone.

She's very entertained by the game. Like you, I've tried other games but mostly she drifts back to Roblox. Robux isn't needed in the slightest, there's plenty of free items in the store if they are after some new looks.

I’d imagine a large part of why they want to spend money is the peer pressure from other children, probably a great idea turning off the chat.

My 6 year old is also fairly addicted. She plays a game called Club Roblox which requires you to collect pets and rubbish like that. Shrug.

That sounds like Murder Mystery maybe?

I'd say 99% of the games are tat, with a couple that are playable without being outstanding.

Maybe I've no idea, I was upstairs working and he was playing on the main TV, the wife walked in and went ballistic seeing him chiv people up.

Told him to play a different game and sat with him for a bit and felt like I was losing brain cells watching it all.

Where do the games come from, are they made by people like YouTube vids or are they proper developer made etc

I think your just out of touch.
Its a good kids game, I played some seriously crap games as I was growing up. it is what it is, as long as they are having fun surely that's a good thing? If you think the game is not suitable for a certain age you can report it and they do often take them down. Also make sure you have enabled the account restrictions button otherwise yes your children are going to see games not suitable for under 13 years which sounds like this game is not? https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000375686-Account-Restrictions

My 7 year old loves adopt me on Roblox and she gets 400 Robux a month to do what she wants with.

The fact that she can play it on the tablet whenever she fancies is something I would have absolutely loved when I was younger!

My daughters are addicted to Roblox, they both spend hours playing Adopt Me and Flee the Facility.

I can't get my head around why they want to play it, both games look horrendous and they spend literally half the time on Adopt Me trying to show off items they have which might be classed as rare or ultra rare etc. From what I can gather it looks like a game of "nah nah, nah naaaah nah, look what I have and you don't". It boggles my mind. There's a switch they can play on, a PS5 with PS Plus subscription just sat there. But noooo, they sit there playing Roblox and it irritates the life out of me

The only thing that stops them playing is the fact their phone/gaming time is limited.

I’ve not played it but it looks awful and pointless. I played fortnight a few times with my nephew but he just wanted to explore the edges of the map and for me to buy him outfits.

I don’t think we are supposed to understand it. Have you ever watched back on YouTube any of the stuff you used to love on tv as a kid? Knight rider, or he man cartoons. Absolute rubbish it is, at the time I couldn’t understand why my dad didn’t love it. There are children’s brains inside those little heads!
