EV general discussion

I didn't. infact I hadn't heard of it being a potential issue until after I had decided to buy. (I did have to have a new glass roof installed on it however due to a crack in it)
IF there was a design problem with the windscreen one would hope it would have been addressed in the 2020 MY21 facelift. no idea if this is the case however

I have bought the extended warranty however
It has been revised along with the 12v battery issue on Pre MY21 cars.

Post, you mean? :).

Also, does this correspond to the mini facelift thing? So if I find one with a 20/40/20 rear seats foldy split thing, i'm alright for a correctly bonded windscreen?

p.s thanks Mike for your response!

No I mean Pre ;) or Post or something ;) as the 12v battery issue was on Pre MY21 cars as was the windscreen issue

If the car has 11KW charging and Pivi Pro its the facelift.

Aha ah sorry I read it the other way now and it makes sense :D Ta ver much.

Just realised I've not seen any Christmas or new year charging 'stories' knocking around, guessing they've forgotten about it now, or perhaps there wasn't anything to report as charger roll out significantly increased in 2023, hmmm

Anyone seen any FUD? :)

I’ve not seen any queues at the usual spots this year tbh. The expense of public chargepoints could be one reason I guess.

Must admit any non Tesla EV I’ve seen on the motorways before or during xmas has been driven relatively slowly, with well wrapped up occupants and steamed up windows :p

Lots of it.

EVs dont reduce pollution, they just move it.

If you want to keep pollution close. Move somewhere with it . You're not short of countries and cities to choose from.

the luddites are revelling in the relatively low petrol prices, whilst I think the average ev owner, 2/3d's being fleet sales are better off anyway;
have to see if the chancellor does anything about levelling up ev ownership possibilities for the them/former (which I believe the french have proposed)

(The holy father has now signed the vatican up for a vw ev deal - but I think I already told johnny that news)

To be fair, I saw some people in the Tesla owners group moaning about a fairly large queue at Tebay just before Xmas. However, since the upgrade there it was turning over cars pretty quickly and nothing like last years issues.

The problem with Tebay is that it’s a really nice services and it has the best tesla charging provision for miles and miles so everyone and their dog piles in there regardless of whether it’s a good idea or not.

There are expansions going in at Gretna and a new site in Preston so hopefully that will give people more options next year but they’ll all still probably pile into Tebay anyway.

Xmas is probably peak time of year for people who rarely do long distance drives, to do those drives.

That old trick of doing long journeys at night to avoid traffic might be useful for EVs. Bjørn Nyland. I think does a lot of his testing at night.

I did a trip to Scotland earlier in the year, it had me charge to 95% at one stop, in order to skip the more congested Superchargers. So they actively manage the issue.

To be fair, thats the only issue I have with opening them up, the lack of automated balancing as non Tesla's will just manually choose.

Don't they penalise you if you charge past 90% now, or is that something they were considering?

I have a feeling it depends on load, last time we stopped at a small service with only a handful of superchargers and it did give some warning, makes sense.

No, it’s something they are doing in America only.

I suspect it will come here though as the network opens up as they way they currently encourage you to move on will be ineffective.

What they current do is if you plug in at a high usage station it will automatically set your charge limit to 80% but you can just move it back to 100% if you are so inclined. I don’t think it will do that though if you need >80% to get to the next scheduled charger.

Once the charging stops Idle fees kick in after 5 mins. I think they are 50p/min of the charger is >50% full and £1/min if it’s >75% full.
