OK I've got to Chapter 6 which is the mid-point of the game as far as I can tell. Kojima has upped the tedium stakes a lot, now.
1. Your ability to see the invisible enemies is removed entirely (plot device).
2. The terrain is all mountainous, all the time.
3. Snow. Snow slows your movement to a complete crawl. You can no longer run, and your vehicles cannot do more than 5mph.
(It's quite realistic I suspect, that's why you need snowmobiles and snow shoes to make good progress in snow, which you do not have access to. Just regular boots and a regular motorbike, so you just go ultra slowly)
4. All the deliveries are to people who live at the top of mountains. I'm not even joking.
5. All the way up the mountains are invisible enemies that you can no longer detect in any way shape or form (see 1).
6. If any of the invisible enemies see you they throw you all the way down the mountain and it triggers a boss fight.
7. You then have to return to base camp to resupply, and try again.
Seriously, the theme of this game is not "connections". It's "persistence". Either your will wins or Kojima breaks you and you go do something else. That is the game's purpose.
