EV general discussion

After talk on enyaq and options - some were originally less than the magic 40K
is there no way on autrotrader, or something else, to determine which cars w/options cost more that 40K when purchased so would still be liable for premium car tax,
saw this older pistonheads thread , but the government website no longer reveals if higher rate tax would be due https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/?locale=en
on entering plates from AT.

yes , indeed bev's excepted now that I input a phev reg into the govt tax checker 330e

Put in an order recently for my first EV. A Mercedes EQB 350 AMG Premium. Hopefully arrives April, but I guess we will see about that.

Getting it through a works salary sacrifice scheme, where I did first confirm that it would come out after the salary sacrifice pension is calculated. Meant to be an all inclusive package, and with the tax breaks, I must say, it did look incredibly attractivley priced. Only for 2 years / 25k so will see what like before ordering it's replacement.

I was recommending the excellent lease prices on Mercs to colleagues, but at beginning of the week our SS Scheme lists all Mercedes as "Manufacturer currently not taking new orders"..

I know there was talk a month ago about them slowing production due to slow sales but not sure what is going on..

Obviously if there is existing stock, great, but interesting if you get a new order and what the delivery dates are..

Fines from what?
Not selling enough heat pumps. Like EVs there is also a heat pump sales mandate.

That said I’m not really away of any heat pump products that the major boiler companies produce other than Vailant who have a really good heat pump product.

The rest of them come from what I’d described as traditional air conditioning companies e.g. Daikin.

To be honest, I ordered it a month or so ago and the estimated delivery date then was mid-March. It has now slipped a month.

I was then contacted to say it would be built in 2024 build year spec rather than 2023, and as such my original colour choice was no longer available, so had to change that. The recently was emailed to suggest a mid-April delivery date.

But they no longer allow the ability to order one of these. So looks like I got in there before they withdrew them. Which is fine. Otherwise I'd have been tempted with an I.D. Buzz, but they have a 60 week lead time. Which is a bit long.

But yeah, the deal was particularly attractive even before the salary sacrifice element. It was surprisingly cheap, for what it is. A 7 seat SUV EV from a premium German manufacturer in an all-in lease, for around £500 per month before tax breaks. The only problem with it really is the poor range. But I can deal with that for a couple years. It was even worth it to add on the adaptive cruise as an option. Although the auto regen was pretty good in the 3 day test drive I got on one before ordering.

Baxi sent out a letter to installers basically saying heat pumps are not viable for them (cost and Volume)

So they are spreading the fine across all gas boilers.

What are the cheapest EVs on salary sacrifice thing now?

So on my octopus SS

15k miles per year, all in.

Fiat 500e (145 miles) - £326
BYD Dolphin (210 miles) - £367
MG4 trophy long range (225 miles) - £419

If I didn’t need a bit more range I would go for the MG4.

Currently I’m looking at

Tesla model 3 RWD (260 mile) £594
Polestar 2 RWD Long range (270 miles) £595
BYD Seal AWD (300 miles) £626

Is that after all the tax stuff?
Or before?

I may actually have to look at this properly. Now I'm firmly in the 40pc bracket. And our car is starting to accrue issues it's getting closer and closer to be better to go this route.

I did not realise some schemes include insurance etc too?
