best GPU for 1080p @ £300 ish

Oops. Got mixed up with another thread. Sorry

I wouldn't buy a RTX 3070 new tbh (hardly any shops still sell them).

I suppose you could make the argument that if the price of a new RTX 4070 fell to £470, that would at least be as good as the RTX 3070 on launch.

Since you seem to be impressed by the RTX 4070, you could wait for the used prices to come down. For now, the prices are nowhere near £300.

I cringe whenever I hear "fine wine", it's a load of ******** these days.

The 3070 is the best choice out that lot in my opinion, if only there weren't so many faulty 2000 series cards with space invaders issues then I'd have said 2080ti.

The AMD alternatives look weak in comparison, which they absolutely wouldn't at the higher end.
The problem with 3070 is the the 8GB limitation is a very real issue.

People have mod it to 16GB in review, and comparing to the default 8GB games just run much smoother and even with higher frame rate. Also with only 8GB vram play games with any RT enable would put additional loads onto the vram and when the card run out of vram the games would turn into a stuttering mess. Even for 1080p the 3070 have to turn down graphic settings like texture sooner rather than later just so to avoid hitting the vram ceiling that would lead to stuttering.

There's a reason why the 6800XT 16GB was highly recommended back then, as it had the best balance between everything for that price range. The 3070 8GB on the other hand was a great card- that got ruined by Nvidia's stinginess on the amount of vram offered.

People should have stopped buying the 3070 8GB even over a year ago, and most definitely shouldn't buy one for today.

It’s really not for most gamers. The percent of people that mod is very low. Most just buy games and play.

I had both GPUs in the house and I dumper the 6700xt as the 3070 or performed it in every game that’s played in this house.

Now if you mode games then you have to take that into account and buy accordingly. But even than 6700xt is going for about 370 in the mm including postage. I have seen 6800’s sell for 300

I agree, if there are RTX 2080 TIs available for less money than a used RTX 3070*, then it's generally a better option. It would perform very well at 1080p.

I would still want a warranty though personally, maybe I'd be less worried if it was an FE model.

Where would that be from? The members market?

*A used RTX 3070 + warranty can be had for ~£310

This is not a bad point, but these weren't meant to be high end cards, more aimed at the mid sized wallet buyer...

Which games struggle with 8GB of VRAM @ 1080p with RT off?

what games? i have 2 in the house and both run games on ultra @ 1080 over 60fps and over 100fps at high

EDIT:
i stand corrected, at ultra battlefield is it 85fps and high 120fps...
and this is at 80% GPU usage because we all know at 1080p the CPU is the problem
i will retest when my 5700x3d comes

Yes the 3070 is a known mining GPU

I'd go for the low £300 4060 Ti cards currently selling on ebay atm tbh. I reckon if one pops on MM it will be below £300. 3070 perfomance but 6 months old at most and wasn't in the mining boom.
