Upgrading from Ryzen 3600X

Hi All

I've been away from PC building for a while but I think it's time for an upgrade from my 3600X/B450 Tomahawk setup. I'm thinking of going Intel this time and was looking at the following:

My basket at OcUK:

• 1 x Fractal Design Meshify C Midi Tower Case - White Tempered Glass (SKU: CA-07L-FD) = £94.99
• 1 x DeepCool LE520 All In One ARGB White CPU Water Cooler - 240mm (SKU: HS-01S-DC) = £69.95
• 1 x TeamGroup Delta RGB 32GB (2X16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C38 6000MHz Dual Channel Ki (SKU: MY-0AY-TG) = £99.95

Any comments? I'm carrying my 3080, PSU and AE-9 into the new build. The old CPU/mobo/RAM will make their way into my son's rig which is having some issues.

If you're only gaming then you're better off with a 7500F or 7600 and being on AM5 for future upgrades.

The 13400F is a reasonable productivity CPU (though the 13500 is better, because it has 4 more E-Cores), but I would not pick one for gaming. If you do want Intel for gaming, the 12600KF performs similar to the 13400F, has the same core config and costs around £60 less than the £210. They wouldn't need an AIO either, I believe you can buy a white peerless assassin with RGB.

would've said to chuck in a 5800x3d, but as you're giving your kiddo your current core components, then agree makes more sense for a new build

Thanks both. I'd read a few reviews that said Intel was ahead at the moment. I'll look further into the 7600.

The PC isn't purely for gaming although the rest of the workload isn't particularly heavy duty. Sibelius, occasional ProTools and some big Excel files is as demanding as it gets.

would swap for a 7600 non-x more power efficient, and when pbo is enabled, performs the same as a 7600x

i'd also swap the ssd for adata xpg gammix s70 blade 2tb - cheaper and has a dram cache

Here is a video which compares the 7500F and 13400F, you'll see that the 7500F is quite a bit faster for the majority of games:

This review shows how the 12600K is a bit faster than the 13400F, even though the KF version is available much cheaper than OCUK's price for the 13400F:

The above review also includes the 7600.

Ryzen 7000 gaming performance is more comparable to Intel 13th gen (i5 K and up). Unfortunately for the i5-13400F, it has the same cache config as the 12th gen CPUs, so it doesn't get the performance uplift that the 13600K does.

newer, better designed, cheaper and comes with 4x argb fans already...and most importantly, can mount a 360mm aio up on top (the meshify c cannot)
then you can get the thermalright aqua elite 360 (which is also incidentally cheaper than the deepcool you linked, whilst being a better aio)

It’s running ridiculously slow for no apparent reason. It’s an 8700/1070 based system so shouldn’t be particularly sluggish. Temperatures all fine and a Windows reinstall hasn’t helped. No memory or ssd errors and no crashes. It’s also got a weird and long standing issue where WiFi connectivity is terrible. I’ve tried two different internal WiFi cards and two usb ones but speed and stability are still bad. There must be a reason for all of this but I’m tired of troubleshooting the thing.

(It’s also an excuse….)
