EV general discussion

I'm coming up to a year of owning my ID4 Pro+ 77kwh.
Pros
Like driving a golf buggy, very easy to drive as it's auto it helps my dodgy knees when in heavy traffic.
Decent(ish) economy. I have averaged 3.4kwh/m over 13k. Most of this motorway driving between Derby and Slough, sometimes M1/M25 or M1/A43/M40 at national speed limits.
Lots of space in the back, family never complain.
It's comfortable enough, real test will be in October when I drive to Cornwall.
Easy as anything to use the compatible Tesla chargers.
The standard Moonstone grey colour is actually rather nice.
I do like the positioning of the gear lever.

Cons
Infotainment - laggy, slow and prone to crashes. Takes ages to connect to my phone when getting into the vehicle.
Safety measures - the lane control is annoying, you can turn it off but when you get back in the car later it re-enables.
Auto cruise - it's almost got my flashed a few times when it randomly decides to up the speed to 100mph!! I think the recognition must pick up the 100kmh signs on the back of trucks or something. PITA
There are areas on the bodywork that attract dirt and even straight after a wash and a quick drive, the dirt re-appears (lower portion of the rear doors)
Don't like the fact that everything is on the touch screen, cannot initiate a call from the steering wheel controls.
The unlit heating controls, don't really bother me but I can see why people complain.
What muppet thought it would be a good idea to just put the rear window controls on the front drivers side on a button that means you have to switch between the front and the rears.

Am I glad I went for this over some of the other options, yes as at the time the Tesla M3 was £150 a month more expensive. Polestar 2 was another £100 more. It struck the balance between cost and practicality for me.
It's a pity VW don't offer an upgrade of the computer and software like Tesla. It would resolve a lot of issues

Was the DC preconditioning capability they didn't reverse fit, my neighbour has the smaller battery ID4,
but fullspiz with bigger battery sounds like hasn't needed much dc charging, with good mway economy anyway

Taken a bit of a leap of faith... Bye bye 5 series , hello Model Y.. hopefully picking up Saturday... First EV so lots to learn probably .

Just the bog standard one, 3 year lease, 4.2k down, 300 a month for 10k miles a year...

Seems a reasonable TCO over 3 years with some man maths on fuel savings, and interest I'll earn on the money I didn't spend buying something.

Will switch to octopus intelligent go and probably order a charger through octopus as well..

@Jonnycoupe Sorry to be a pita and feel free to ignore me or tell me to bugger off....... :) however as our resident JLR employee and ipace expert .....

do you know if i will get charged if i take my 2020 MY21 pivi pro car to the main dealer to get them to try to force a software update onto my car? i have not receieved an OTA update for the car for over 12 months and there are several updates since then.

I have heard that a bunch of cars accidentally got blocked from getting any new updates and it needs a main dealer to kick them off again. i am on 4.01... or am i mistaken and this really is the newest updated for MY21 pivi pro cars?
FWIW i have an extended warranty but not jaguar assist.

thanks.

Can a first edition get the latest software and CPU?
Don’t understand. The Tesla ‘CPU’ was new memory wasn’t it as they overwrite the same place ? I don’t think

For 3.5 I went in for the battery check and update at same time but car was 2022 delivered on 3.1. 3.5 deffo less lag and I have no issues with it

I know why this is the case so I'm afraid there's a reason to wait, its very much work in progress.

I thought they were stuck on 3.2 and sluggish. Maybe I'm misinformed. I've never owned one.

Hi there

I got a base model mg4 nearly a year ago for my wife to use, it's super cheap fully maintained on salary sacrifice.

Today, the XPower with 420ish hp appeared for 270 a month over 2 years inc insurance and all other costs bar charging.

Don't need it but I quite like the idea. Crazy pricing

it's the same in my 20 plate diesel Passat. Random, black screens, wont connect to Android Auto and needs rebooting every other day. VW software division has been an expensive mess hence why they just put $5bn into Rivian.

Ive never understood why they just didnt ask Audi to do the software. Audi dont seem to have the same issues as VW/SKODA.Software 5.0 does seem to get a positive write up, but that maybe because the early versions were so bad!
