Whilst obviously a different device, in a market where you can buy an Xbox Series S for £250 or a Series X for £450, a Switch at £400 would be pretty ambitious I think - £350 I think is a reasonable upper limit if they expect to draw in the mainstream market again but it wouldn't surprise me to see them aim for £300 and drop back to stuff like an LCD screen. Possibly even launch with a 'Regular' and 'Lite' tier?

Even as a Switch fan, a Switch 2 at £400 becomes an "only if there's some proper 'must play' software" purchase, whereas £300 is more palatable as a "I don't really need it but I want it" grade purchase

The PS5 Pro, with a price that seems to have been universally regarded as 'overpriced'

The SteamDeck, which is selling in volumes of what appear a couple of million units per year

Those are fine examples of why Nintendo need to be very careful not overprice the Switch 2

This. If tens of millions of people worldwide are happy to cough up £450+ for a PS5(pro), Series X or Steam Deck why wouldn't they be prepared to do the same for the new Switch ? Particularly if it offers back compatibility, thereby ensuring the consumer doesn't have to "re-buy" their digital/physical game library. Furthermore, people can trade-in / sell their old Switch which will help keep costs down. And, @Kenai , you really think Nintendo won't have some killer apps lined up for the new console's release ? I think getting those new games ready is one of the major reasons why the Switch 2 release is being pushed to 2025 ( unofficially ). I'm strongly expecting a new Mario 3D platformer, Metroid 4, Mario Kart 9, Animal Crossing and a Zelda game ( ? new ? remaster eg. Ocarina of Time ) all within the first 12 months. I'd be amazed if they don't have a strong road map for title releases.

I think they'll have some decent stuff lined up for sure, stuff that means you'd barely even think twice at £300. Decent enough to make a £400 Switch 2 a mainstream 'must buy' though? That's a slightly bigger ask and I dare say would need virtually all of that list appearing almost immediately.

I still think people are getting slightly carried away with their expectations for the device in all honesty and setting themselves up for being slightly disappointed. I'm not convinced we're going to see something powerful enough to demand £400 in the current marketplace. I'll be pleasantly surprised if the console exceeds all my current expectations and looks good value at a £400 price point, because it'd probably be an unbelievably well specified device in that case but I just don't see Nintendo going that way.

I agree that some are expecting too much performance wise, irrespective of the actual cost of the console. My prediction is somewhere between £349.99 up to £399.99. Reverting back to a LCD screen ( vs. OLED on the original updated Switch ) will help keep the price down for consumers. I think Nintendo will try and aim for the £349.99 target, but a weak Yen ( has been very low over the last few months ) will hamper competitive pricing in Western markets.

Been thinking about it a lot today and I agree that £350 sounds like the sweet spot. £400 is pushing it away from a lot of their market - especially younger players who will want one for Xmas etc.

I think the switch has been too successful for the £350 mark, I think it will round it up to £400

If that will be a success is anyone's guess

I am guessing around £399 for Switch 2, console, dock, and cables. Wouldn't be surprised at £479 in this current market though.

Maybe they think more people will play it docked? I'd be curious to know how many Switch Lites were sold compared with the normal docked Switches. If more docked Switches were sold then that tells you something. It obviously doesn't tell you the full story but it does give a hint.

I hear you. Personally, like with many things, I'm grumpy and always wanted a portable Nintendo offering as opposed to a hybrid, so ended up with the Lite (even though it is eye squinting hell to read any text on it). An 8" OLED would def get me on board, primarily to replay existing games with a hopeful FPS boost.

It's obvious they'll keep that for a refresh/higher tier model.

I cannot buy anything without an OLED screen now. It doesn't bother me if I have to wait for a refresh with one and if it never comes in I'll never get one.
Unfortunately, it's one of those things that once you've experienced it everything else just looks complete *****.

I'm the same. Once I went to an OLED tv and monitor I couldn't go back. I discovered the reason I rarely played my Switch in handheld prior to the the OLED was because I hated the muted screen and large bezzle. I've played my switch 1000x more since I bought the OLED. It's a pleasure to look at.

I'm in a similar situation with the Steamdeck. I bought one at launch and have barely touched it since the first month of owning it. Again, I think it's the screen. I have a feeling if I pick up the OLED the same thing will happen again.

I've been of the mindset that I'll pick up the Switch 2 at launch regardless, but if it's going to be LCD again, I may as well hold off a while and wait for that inevitible SKU.

The OLED screen is day and night better than the original LCD. I hope the Switch 2 has it from launch, surely it will or have the option to buy a premium version that does.

Doesn't sound like there will be two separate SKU's at launch. But if it is a LCD screen that we get, keep in mind that the tech is much better than it was back in 2017. I'd still prefer a OLED, though.
