The "he didn't do the work" argument falls flat though. If Steve from GN did some testing and gave it to Linus to present, does that make it a worse review? Nah, as mentioned, he's the face of it, assuming the people doing the testing know what they're doing I really don't care if they don't present the final review.

I've managed to sort out things now so I'll need to start ordering, but this is where I'll be landing with the chip as there were certain things I already had to hand:

32GB (2x16) Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5-6000
ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E
Samsung 990 PRO 2TB (decided against the Gen 5 drive options)
Corsair 7000D Airflow
Corsair H170i Elite Capellix XT/AF140mm RGB ELITE x 7/AF120mm RGB ELITE x4 (AIO/Case fans with the Commanders, had these on hand)
Salvaging my HXi1000w and MSI Gaming Trio Z from the existing rig.

All in it's looking to end up about £1250 today.

I'd hope that the scalped prices would be so insane due to the RRP of the 5090 that there will be really low demand, but I expect to be wrong!

I think of Linus as the "top gear" of hardware youtubers. Highly entertaining, but I don't watch him for serious tech advice or reviews. That's my boy Steve from Gamers Nexus.
I've been watching Linus since his **** (Technically defunct, but maybe a competitor - playing it safe) days, when it was maybe just two or three people putting the videos together and he was so much easier to connect with then.

He does seem to be a bit of a mouthpiece to a huge number of employees now, with more and more out of touch views and seems more interested in creating and selling products, like the screwdriver, than content...

I started ordering at 13:55 when the listing went live...
Selected PayPal.
Had to 2FA for PayPal.
Then American Express wanted to send me a code too.

Was panicking like crazy and ended up with an order time of 14:00:07... and a wife telling me to calm the hell down it's only a processor
Don't forget to tell her 'it's just a handbag' or 'there are other similar shoes'!

No why do AMD need to give stuff away on brand new product. They might do give-aways and discounts in a years time when they need to try and sell it, for now they can sell thousands easily, be glad they did not price it higher. :)

Just an enquiry, AMD have done game bundles with new product launches in the past. Also, don't you mean "be glad OcUK didn't price it higher?"

Does a motherboard really have that much effect on CPU overclocking? I thought it was all silicon lottery and cooling material? (Liquid nitrogen lol).

what other components will be running with your 9800x3d?

I bought hero x870e for £450 when on "offer" expensive I know.
got a 990 4tb m.2
2 x 16gb trident z5 ddr5-8000
msi suprim x 3090 - will get 5080/5090 next year
nzxt kraken z73 aio
nzxt h710i case
I was looking at the X870E taichi originally as I wanted something with the Asynchronous clock gen but grabbed the hero when it popped up for the same price.

Ram arrived today so just waiting on the CPU now.

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3d (obviously :), in Wave 1)
MOBO: ASRock X870E Nova (arrived yesterday)
CPU COOLER: NZXT Kraken X63 (reusing from current build)
MEMORY: Corsair Vengeance 64GB (2*32) 6000 CL30 (arrived yesterday)
GPU: Gainward Phantom RTX 4090 24GB (bought 18 months ago, reusing from old build)
STORAGE: Crucial T700 2TB SSD PCIe Gen5 (arrived earlier this week); 4TB WD Black SN850X, M.2 Gen4.0; Crucial 2TB;
Crucial P5 Plus 2TB M.2 Gen4; 1TB Gigabyte AORUS SSD, Gen4.0, NVMe SSD; two old Samsung 2.5" drives both 1TB each (all from current and older builds)
PSU: NZXT C1200 (bought last week)
CASE: NZXT H710 White/Black (reusing from current build)

Upgrading from a 5800x, still deciding whether to sell my old components or keep them to build a mITX Steam Box for the living room. I'll have to sell the motherboard anyway as it's too big.

Was too slow. But I was looking at shops in many EU countries and the stock dried up quickly. Demand really is insane! Won't be impossible to buy or anything but don't think I'll wait another month. Guess I'll just make a more modest system instead and keep the change. /shrug
